Anal Sacs removed, poo issues

My Barkley had his anal sacs removed almost 3 weeks ago. It took 5-6 days for normal bowel movements, but since then when he barks, poop pops in and out, and sometimes comes out. I think this is referred to as nervous pooping or doorbell incontinence?

Is this normal almost 3 weeks post surgery? I'm trying to be patient and not overreact but I'm second guessing if surgery was the right decision now.

Poor Barkley, Hope his surgery does what it was surposed to do. I can imagine how poor Barkley feel's.Did they give him pain med's and antibotic's? I had hemrroid's surgery like 5 year's ago, was the most painful surgery I ever had. When you move your bowel's feel's like you are passing razor blades.For awhile I couldn't control my bowel's right either. Will be keeping Barkley and his mommy in my prayer's, Hoping for a speedy recovery.

Bogey is having anal gland issues too. We are not at a point of having to surgically remove them and my vet said it was considered a very last resort. The anus is a sphincter muscle and I would think it would take time to regain the strength to the sphincter after surgery. I'm very interested to see how he heals with more time which I think he needs.

He did have antibiotics and pain meds (tramadol and rimadyl). He suffered a lot of anxiety during the night the first 5 days. He wasn't going so I gave him the stool softener from the vet.. which resulted in a mess in my bed in the middle of the night


I'm hoping its temporary, but trying to find an exact answer online is impossible. Some say if there's incontinence then the surgery was botched, but then others have said their babies had incontinence issues for only 3-4 days. Since he's almost 3 weeks in I'm starting to get worried.


I'm trying to convince myself it was the right choice because of his discomfort and the leaking on myself and furniture.

I would ask for a timeline from the vet.

This is a possible complication and may not resolve. The best we can do is make sure the surgeon has done the procedure many times without this happening. It is always possible, though.

My Yorkie, Puff, had her anal glands removed last summer. I was having to take her to the vet every 3-4 days to have them emptied! At the time of her surgery she was just over one year old. After the surgery the vet told me that things never would have gotten better without the surgery--there was a flaw in their structure that couldn't have been repaired.
What led up to having them removed in your pup's case?

Pink, he was filling up fast and not expressing naturally, which resulted in him leaking on my lap, furniture, bed, etc. I was taking him in about every 2 weeks to be expressed, and was told they were very full.

I haven't picked up any poo balls lately, so I think it's safe to assume it was a temporary incontinent issue
