Teddy has bladder stones

For anyone who likes to watch gross medical stuff, this is the procedure teddy is having. It doesn't seem bad. It looks like a Yorkie in the video. I couldn't see this from my iphone.

Poor baby.
Did not look that gross though as the dog was asleep. Could not see any solids, are the stones broken up that small? I was expecting lumps of stuff coming out with the water. Perhaps I just did not look hard enough?
Interesting that just pressure on the lower abdomen could do the job.
Good luck when Teddy has this done, hope it makes him better.

I know, I expected more but think how small they are! Teddy's stones are very tiny - all are 2-3 mm. So they can pass. But they can analyze them as small as a poppy seed size.

The way they do it is that they put him to sleep and give him medications to relax the bladder walls so it does not contract. Then they pass a catheter into the bladder and fill the bladder with saline solution. Then they stand him up like in the video and they squeeze. Hopefully the pressure of the squeeze will get the sand and gravel out.

It takes like a month to get the results which is very aggravating. But, if I don't do it now, and the gravel gets bigger, he won't be able to have this procedure and will have to be cut for surgery.

Thank you for the run down of the complete process. So this squeezing is the last procedure. I see now why the opening looked so red and relatively large if it had been catheterized to inject the saline earlier. (I still would have liked to have seen the small stones at the bottom of the container. Enquiring minds need to know! LOL!)
Lets hope Teddy's are the smallest so they will pass easily and will not need surgery. I agree having to wait a month for results is very annoying. I wonder in this tech age why the analysis takes so long?

I bet you will feel a little sore down there for a day or two. Ouch!

I just saw the video again and think I did detect some stones on the right of the container base! If I did, some look rather large!

Bless his heart...it's not fair! One good thing, Teddy has a very knowledgeable mom who will make sure that he gets the best care and nutrition. He will be in our prayers...

My yorkie is 2 years old has the same thing . He had surgery last month. It's not easy to care for them after the surgery. Best of luck. If you have any question feel free to reach out.

I just heard that they were finishing up w/ Teddy's procedure. They got the three stones out of his bladder! I am just waiting to hear that he is awake.

He's awake! All went well and he is coming home this afternoon. He won't need any pain meds since all went nice and easy. I'm very relieved all went well for Teddy, and now I anxiously await the results of the stone analysis.
