| How terrible that this happened to your sweet yorkie! I pray he heals fully from this break. I feel so bad for him and for you. This should never have happened!

| YT 2000 Club Member | I do not trust a lot of those groomers! If you can, get a groomer to come to your home and supervise what is going on. That groomer may have pulled his leg out of frustration. You know some Yorkies can be pains when it comes to bathing and grooming. Be so careful who grooms your dogs. Dog gone it, I hate to hear of accidents like this one. My groomer comes to my house and I stand there and supervise and comfort my dogs. I have seen groomers lose their patients with dogs and hit em with a hairbrush or yank on them. My heart breaks and know the Lord, Creator of all beautiful Yorkies and dogs will punish these cruel people |

| OMG...that break looks horrible. I am so sorry to hear this happened to your little one. I am sure it's going to be a challenge to confine and keep a 4 month old puppy calm so he can heal. Both my pups sleep in my bed. I moved my mattress to the floor when I got my new dog and he couldn't be trusted to not jump off the bed. I think in your circumstance, I'd probably keep him crated in a confined area ...perhaps in a small crate on your bedside table in his own crate so he can see you and he still feels close to you. He needs to have limited movement until the bones can heal. I'd also keep him separated from his brother because you don't want him roughhousing or playing right now. When his bone has healed enough for him to move around a little, you could then move your mattress to the floor or tie him to the bed so he can sleep but not jump in and out of the bed until he heals the rest of the way. I am glad to hear your wife is going after the groomer. I personally do all of my grooming myself and one of the reasons is because I don't trust anyone else with my pups. I have a hard time believing they would take the time and care that I do with my babies. The ONE time I took Ricky to the groomer, just to get his toenails trimmed, the guy manhandled him. Ricky has very long, fine boned legs and I was so scared the guy was going to break one of them!! That was enough for me!! We go to the vets to get our toenail clips now. Unfortunately, I think a lot of groomers get careless. They groom so many dogs, day in and day out that some of them get burned out, they get desensitized and they aren't as compassionate, patient or gentle as they should be. They just want to get the dog in and out. I imagine your tiny 4 month puppy is wiggly and scared as well, since grooming is a new thing...so that is going to take extra patience and care. Personally, I would have someone help me hold a puppy that small and young to prevent such accidents from happening. I don't know if you've every thought about grooming your pup at home, but it's really not too terribly hard groom our breed...especially if you just want your pup in a shorter cut. The long hair isn't hard either....it's just time consuming to maintain and brush it on a daily basis. I can usually wash, blow dry and trim up each of my pups in less than an hour!! Lots of us YT'ers groom our own pups. There's a section on here dedicated to it and there are lots of tutorial videos out there to help you. I think it's great for bonding time with my dogs and I and I find it very rewarding to see my little disasters turn into little handsome little fella's again. |

| Looks like a near-perfect anatomical surgical reduction/fixation! So hope your little one's post-op course is uneventful and goes well.

| oh my word, that exray is gut wrenching. I don't have any advice, but I will say welcome to yorkie talk, my prayers are with your boy for a full recovery, and prayers for you guys to manage a hyper puppy though this. And I sure hope you get some sort of compensation from your groomer, they should know better than turning their back on a 4 month old puppy and allowing him to tumble off their table.

| YT 2000 Club Donating Member | Welcome to YT. I am just so sorry it was under such unfortunate circumstances. That break looked terrible, but the post op Xray looks good. I am so glad your wife will be seeking redress, although I would have hoped that the grooming salon owner would have immediately paid the vet bill(s); after all the dog the puppy no less, came to harm in their salon!!! Sometimes things happen, they shouldn't, but a tiney moment of in-attention, most especially with a puppy can result in an accident. I recently left my own 4mth old puppy with a groomer, but through the pics and my pre-screening conversation, I knew that there would be two folks with her, the entire time she was being groomed. In fact that is what we do at home. My husband helps/watches/ stabilizes her when she is on the grooming table. I don't like to use the grooming noose, and until she can be on the table safely, be still etc, always we have two folks present. I had a very bad experience with a grooming noose, with my other now senior Blackie, who jumped off the table, he was attached to the grooming noose, and that heavy table fell on him, and he was seriously injured. But with large breeds the table is much much closer to the floor, so I would rather have them jump off the table, then be attached to the table, and have the table fall on them.

| I have been where you are. Jess broke her front leg and needed bone grafts, plates and screws because the first vet casted it and I didn't know any better. Anyway, I will tell you my surgeon said "no walking, none" for 6 weeks. She was kept in a crate that was big enough for her bed, water and a pee pad.then we lowered the top by making a makeshift ceiling, and padded the entire thing with furniture moving pads so if she even tried to sand against the sides she landed basically on soft pillow. I carried her around in a doggie purse that had holes in the leg area and in a stroller. That pup was my morning noon and night for six weeks. I hardly left her. It was hard but now a year later she runs on that leg like it never happened. My surgeon was even surprised and how both her radius and ulna healed. It is imperative that they walk as little as possible. Jess took steps, maybe two or three at a time but that was it. I also got calming meds from the dr because they do go a little stir crazy. Jess had some weird habits when she was confined but they all went away. Good luck and I hope your pup does as well.. |
