| Need some advice... Kona has been having a bad "cough" for the past 4 days, I say cough because I'm not sure what it is, it's a sound I have not heard before come from him or any dog for that matter. It seriously sounds like he has a hair ball, but nothing comes out, he eats fine and drinks ok, so I don't think he's having trouble breathing. It's like he's hacking up something, but nothing happens. He coughs and coughs and heaves. He acts normal, sleeps ok, no unusual behavioral issues, just the coughing. Should I be worried? Is this something I should take him to see his vet? |

| Hi from Maui, sorry your Kona is having problems. You should have a vet check it out, it could be kennel cough, which would need medication. It could also be a number of other things, such as allergies, or reverse sneezing, or collapsed trachea. Here are links to threads that may have some similar situations, but honestly your vet is best to diagnose and treat whatever it is. Good luck, and keep us posted. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/die...d-trachea.html http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sic...2-weezing.html

| Hi nd Welcome to YT! Sorry about your pup... I do think a vet check would be a good thing. Pups can get kennel cough or bronchitis among other things, which can be treated. Hope it's a quick fix and your pup is feeling better soon. Ooops! Just saw the other reply... lol. Good luck at the vet's!

| Sounds like it could be kennel cough so it is always good to get a vet check up. If it is kennel cough, last thing you want is for it to lead to pneumonia. Is the coughing random or do you notice if it happens after activity? Coughing after activity/exercise could be signs of a collapsed trachea. As MauiGirl said, could also be allergies. With the high winds we had over the weekend, maybe something bothered him. Hopefully Kona is ok!
