| you can teach an old dog (owner) new tricks...or lessons... 6 weeks ago I received a 13 1/2 year old Yorkie into my 4 member pack. The pack consist of 3 males and 2 females. All males are neutered and one female is spayed. I thought all was going well with the pack and felt comfortable to leave our senior member outside his pin while I was away. Well tragedy struck. We arrived home to find him near death and had been mauled by the 6 year old, larger male in the pack. We have had a tough 4 days, since Saturday night last. With prayer, excellent emergency vetrinarian care and Intensive care nursing at home (I'm a RN), it appears that he is recovering dramatically well. We will be checking his renal function again Friday since he was in shock and suffering from myoglobinuremia and elevated BUN immediatley post injury. He is eating, drinking and toileting normally now. He began to walk more easliy today. Gets his surture out Tuesday. I hope to give him several more safe happy years. Long story short, If your gut tells you to seperate the elders from the pack while your away, DO IT! I have read about this with Yorkie packs, but never dreamed it would happen to me. I have loved 8 adult Yorkies and 13 puppies through the years. I got too comfortable! |

| he is eating appropriate amounts. He stands at the bowl for a time, but prefers to be hand fed. I think he is still exhaused and mildly painful. His gait is improving and he moves to the bed of his choosing at will. I have them stationed all around the room, so he can land when he needs to. Thank you for your thoughts. My heart is very heavy, tomorrow is the BUN test for his kidney function. I pray for good results. |

| I am so very sorry to read about your senior yorkie's attack and injuries. I hope and pray that he continues to recover and will have many more happy years ahead of him. I agree with you 100% about following your intuition. If something doesn't "feel right" it probably isn't. Several years ago I read a book called "The Gift of Fear" by Gavin de Becker. From it I learned the reason we have intuition and how it can save our lives. Learning to trust one's intuition can be one of the most important tools we have in keeping our loved ones safe. |

| I am so sorry. I hope this little guy continues to improve. Dog bites are deadly to them..I had a foster recently who was mauled by another dog and she was in intensive care for 2 weeks. (she did not receive immediate care like yours did...stupid people let her get infected before turning her into a shelter). They explained to me that what you see at the surface is like looking at the tip of an iceberg. Thank you for posting your story...it is a good reminder for us all. They are dogs and these things can happen. I put my senior pups in rooms by themselves when I leave my home. It is a good habit to get into. Prayers for you and your pups!

| We have a different type of situation at our house. We have mostly seniors that have grown up together and they are not yorkies. Our yorkie is the young one and she is crated by herself when I leave and the rest are in a pen. Although she has been here sense April I just dont feel good about putting her in the pen with the others,to much energy. I do hope that your little man will heal quickly. |

| Tinker Update!!!! Thank all of you for your kind words. Tinker made the greatest gains today. I took him to a Birthday party in order to stimulate him. He was soooo excited. I couldn't keep him in his bed and he walked all around the "new house" exploring and mooching food. His eyes are bright and he loved the car ride. He didn't miss a single vehicle as they went by. I feel like prayers were answered. A little Bio on my pack....Tinker 13 1/2 years (adopted 6 weeks ago), Teddy 12 1/2 (Tinker's biological brother and adopted 4 years ago), Meggie (9 yrs., purchased from Clara Powanda of Silk and Satin fame), Hoss 6 yrs. (Meggie's first pup, brother to little Joe who was lost during a tube feeding @ 2 weeks old. LJ had a Cleft Palate. I first posted on YT about this event and got many views and responses.) Hoss is the attacker. He is normally very sweet, but has a hair trigger. Last, but not least we have Wrigley 3yrs old, Meggie's last pup and the sweetest, gentlest, prettiest, most playful little creature I have ever encountered. Before this pack, I had a pack of three members that were all beloved. Thanks again for well wishes |

| So sorry to hear about your little guy. I am glad to hear he is on the mend. I have a hard time imaging yorkies as able to maul anything. Mine can put the smack down on a raw meaty bone and his squeaky toys, but runs under the bed if a door slams closed because of the wind. Hope y'all get over this hard time, and move onto sunnier days ahead. |

| I am so glad to hear Tinker is back to his old self and that he had a fun time at the party. I am glad to hear his bun results were good as well. It must be wonderful to have some many Yorkies to love and be loved by. I hope your pack and your family have a wonderful life together. Best Wishes.
