Diarrhea Help
 
So My baby has diarrhea, more loose stool than watery, since last night I'm not really sure what's going on I didn't change his diet I'm assuming he might've ate something off the floor or something outside is there anything I can give him to help relieve it??? Some of it last night was slimy too :(

Try a little pumpkin.....otherwise, if it continues, please take him to the vet!

your sure he didnt pass something from his anal sac?? sometimes they pass what builds up in there on their own...I have two that do on their own and one who needs to go to the vet when she scoots as she will not pass it on her own. cedric usually will have a lil slimy loose type of stool when it happens. but the smell is different so I know that's where it came from. just a thought in case.

I agree keep your eye on him be sure he is drinking and eating normally if it persists call your vet.

I would take a sample to the vet to get it tested or let him check it out...slimy or greasy foul smelling (was it?) poopie sometimes means giardia. Or was it mucus slimy?

You can give him some Pepto Bismal work every time !!

I give mine 1.5 tsp (from an eye dropper/suction bulb) for every 5lbs. given every 6 hrs.

I agree, a vet visit is in order as it could be the beginning of something serious & the faster he's diagnosed & treated the better especially in a puppy.

It was mucus slimy. His poop already smells strong due to his diet of Orijen brand kibble but this smelt a little worse. Poor guy

I had no idea they did that. He is still eating and drinking, limited last night but Normal this morning. I called the vet and he suggested I give him a very small amount of Imodium because he only weighs 3 pounds and he said that if it persists just to bring him in. I'm going to try. Thank you for the info!

I do not give over the counter meds unless directed by a vet. If one of mine has loose stools, I may try pumpkin, but not for long...diarrhea can lead to dehydration especially in a 3 pound pup. I would be at my vet. I have never ever been told to give immodium and certainly would not be happy with a vet who guessed the dosage...give a small amount is not a dosage!

If this diarrhea continues, he needs to go to the vet...or at least take a specimen in to be checked out.

This is the MAXIMUM dose that dogs should ever have. I've read to start at 1/2 tsp and go from there, but my vet has never ever had us use it. We've always been instructed to give Pepcid for upset stomachs its a much safer medication.

I wouldn't give anything without speaking to your veterinarian.

I personally think it is an overdose. The OP's dog only weighs 3 pounds. I agree, nothing without asking a vet!

Thanks, you have to remember that my pups range from 8-16 lbs. So (1.5 tsp) is the correct dose for them with the exception of Ruby who is only 8lbs. I would assume that anyone would ask their vet for the correct dose for their own pup before giving it. I have been instructed by my vet to give it on many occasions because it is safe for diarrhea and I do use Pepcid for stomach upset. Believe me I would never ever give them anything that would harm them. :)

The problem is that you advised the OP to give it to her 3 pound dog. WHile you said what your dogs weighed, someone could ignore that part and just give it. I make it a policy not to give dosages to people on the internet...I personally think it is not safe.

Unless I am a physic, which I am Not or an OP states the weight I would not know that now would I. Plus most people would clear the proper dose with their vet before giving it... LIKE I DID or at least research it first.
