| Newborn pups - one is lethargic Hi everyone! This is my first post here so I'll try to make it a good one. A bit of history first. My girlfriend and I 'rescued' a 3-year-old male Yorkie (Pepper) and a 4-year-old female Maltese around Thanksgiving of this past year, only to find out in December that the female was already 3 weeks pregnant. The Morkie puppies (8 of them!) were born on January 6th in the early evening. Seven of them are doing great. We have one female that is smaller than the rest and has me worried. What we've done so far: We have tried to bottle feed puppy formula to Olive, but she doesn't seem interested in bottle feeding. She'll suckle the bottle for about 1 minute, then turns her head and closes her mouth. We have pulled her apart from the rest of the litter to nurse with the mother alone, and that has helped some, but even then, she'll nurse for a couple of minutes and then seem to lose interest. This lethargic behavior has been especially noticeable over the past 3-4 days. I've decided to call a vet tomorrow and ask his or her opinion as to what to do, or if we need to bring Olive in. Anyway, if anyone has any experience with a difficult pup or has any advice, I'd appreciate the help! |

| Search on here for fading puppy recipe. It will help with energy for her to nurse more often. I would have taken her to the vet already if it were me. 4-5 days is too much time for her, especially this small, they can go downhill quick. If you notice her getting worse, please go to a ER vet!!

| So far so good Thanks for the advice. The vet thought that the puppy was actually looking good. Her suggestions were things we were already doing and liked the formula for the fading puppy formula. I went to the grocery store on the way home from work, only to find out that they were out of liver until tomorrow. (I'll be back there tomorrow to get some.) Instead, I bought the rarest looking steak, brought it home and boiled a small piece of it. I know it's not the ideal recipe without the liver, but I really wanted to do something for little Olive tonight. I just finishing giving her the broth through an eye dropper and she loved it. I even swapped between giving her puppy formula through the dropper and the broth. It's clear that she preferred the broth far more. I think she's going to grow up being a very picky eater! Thanks again for all your help. This site and forum is exactly what I've been looking for! I'll have to post pictures of the mother and father and the puppies soon! |

| Pics of the puppies Pepper-Yorkie dad.jpg Lilly-Maltese mother.jpg Duncan eyes open2.jpg Olive 1-22-14.jpg Here's some pictures of the gang. Lilly is the mother Maltese, Pepper, the Yorkie father, Duncan is well in hand, and little Olive is peeking while laying on her warm water pad. She does not look amused! Enjoy. |

| The photos are adorable. Hope they all continue to do well. It looks like they are in good hands, and you really do have your hands full with that large litter.
