| Blood in stool Our little yorkie who is now 9 weeks has been having blood in her stool. We took her to a vet and they did some test and came back negative. They gave us some antibiotics and dewormer. The last time she was dewormed was at 2weeks by another vet from the breeder. She is still very playful and acts like nothing is wrong. We haven't changed her food at all. Not sure what is really going on...... |

| Maybe you should try changing her diet. Sometimes dogs get blood in the stools due to diet and they find it hard to digest the food which can cause constipation. |

| Agreed, diet can contribute to bloody stool. When my sons yorkie comes to stay with me he has a bit of an upset tummy and sometimes a little blood in his stool when he changes to the diet my yorkie is on. I gradually ease him in to the new diet (which I think is superior LOL) using a bland diet of boiled chicken and rice. Also a little bit of pumpkin if the stool is loose. All the best |

| If you have not changed her food, did she eat anything out of the ordinary? Or perhaps she ate something off the ground? Puppies tend to eat all kinds of strange things...the colon detects it as a foreign object & causes the intestines to get irritated, causing inflammation. If the blood was bright red, it means it's happening in the lower large intestines &/or colon. Other reasons could be from giardia, hook or whipworms. Although the last 2 reasons are not very common but needs to be ruled out if blood in poop is a recurring thing. Since she's only 9 weeks old, I would keep her on the food the breeder had her on. If you do make the switch, do it gradually for 7-10 days. What is she eating?

| We have not changed her from the breeder food which is diamond. We have her on the bland diet for now. We made an appointment with vet tomorrow afternoon. We haven't taken her outside at all bc she hasn't had all the shots yet. She is getting a lot better with the pee pads. |

| I don't think you mentioned how long you had your puppy? 9 weeks is very young so I assume you recently got her? Is her stool firm or loose when you notice the blood? Any mucus? Stress Colitis might be a possibility. Were you prescribed Metronidazole?

| Good that she is seeing the vet tomorrow. Make sure to take a stool sample with you in a plastic baggie. The vet should check for coccidia and giardia.
