| ![]() I have a new baby and she is 8 weeks old very healthy and loves to play. She had her shots up to date and was dewormed, well yesterday she had alittle blood in her stool when she pooped and it was in diarreha (sp) form. today the poop is still runny but not as bad and there has been no blood so far today. I will take her to vet but got off work to late today. I thought it might be from the dewormer but not sure and really need your guys opinion. I also have a 1yr old boy but he never done this.. ![]()

| ![]() At 8 weeks that is still awfully young to be away from mom. Even though you say she is healthy, don't take a chance, I would be at the vet first thing in the morning. Kim

| ![]() I would go on the side of caution and take your pup to your vet tomorrow. You did not say how much she weighs, but an 8 wk old pup (who should really be with her dam) can dehydrate very easy. I do hope she is healthy and just having some adjustments to her new home, water, etc. |

| ![]() I am very concerned about the size of your girl with the diarrhea. Most definitely a trip to the vet is in order. Your feeding schedule seems ok, but you will really have to watch her for hypoglycemia. Did your vet check this puppy over when you bought her? Did the breeder give you a contract and health guarantee for this puppy? Not every tiny puppy has problems, but I had a tiny male earlier this year. I supplemented with a bottle till he was old enough and strong enough to eat on his own with the littermates over powering him. I kept this pup till he was FIVE MONTHS old to be sure there were no neurological problems associated with his size. The pup is now 10 months old and doing well. Good luck with your puppy, but be sure to have her vet checked. Yorkluvr (who couldn't spell when she made out her original profile) |

| ![]() That is wonderful news. Albon is a drug I always keep on hand. Best of luck with her. You might also try giving her some yogurt. Mine prefer the vanilla to the plain. It will help get her GI tract back on the right track. Cottage cheese is also good with some boiled hamburger or chicken. Another hint is pedialyte. I buy the plain generic brand and use instead of water to keep her electrolytes in balance. Thanks for letting us know. Julie |

| ![]() I suggest you get BeneBac or human acidophilus. Her GI tract might need an enzyme boost because antibiotics kill ALL bacteria including the GOOD in the bowel. That can cause problems. I do not use Yogurt because some dogs can be lactose intolerant and you do not want to add trouble to trouble. Check with your vet first, of course.. |

| ![]() My 8-week old pup was probably 3 to 3 1/2 pounds and ate like a pig from the get-go. I never had any problems with him. True or not - my vet said to give him cottage cheese before he went to sleep for the evening (around 9 or 10). She said this would give him more protein, be more filling, and stay with him longer - allowing both of us to get more sleep. It worked and he has slept 6 to 7 hours soundly from the first night on. And - I was to feed him immedately when he woke up in the morning. This puppy was a good size and was known to eat well with a hearty appetite before I got him. This certainly helps! He's four months and probably 5 pounds now. Carol Jean I'm a little more conservative - and would watch a couple more bowel movements for blood before I would take my pup to the vet. (He goes several times a day - so I would be able to see several movements within the next 24 hours.) But, as other people have mentioned -- very young and small pups need to be more carefully watched. Last edited by SnowWa; 01-06-2006 at 02:46 PM. |
