If I felt something needed to be applied in the past with pups suture lines, my vet advised Chlorhexidine. It must be diluted in water and then you can apply with a cotton ball.

I never knew it was sold as a topical antiseptic. Always thought of it as an ingredient in oral care products.

My vet gives me small bottles of it to use. It really does not take much.

I agree with your vet about the Neosporin. The risk of licking is why I have never used it or cortisone cream on my pups. We use organic coconut oil instead. It has healing and anti-bacterial properties.

If something more serious is required, then I would use an e-collar to prevent licking.

Don't mind me asking should a person wait a few days or a week then put on the organic coconut oil on. Reason I ask this because our little Shelby just got spayed on the 11th of this month. She is actually doing fine especially with her e-collar on. We got the soft collar so it she can sleep with it.

I am interested in using the coconut oil but I am afraid of not letting that area especially where the surgical glue is on her in preventing the area from healing. Thanks in advance.
