| Awful conformation in yorkie... My husband and I recently adopted our second yorkie, a little two year old male we've named Sonar. After never having any health problems with our older yorkie, Radar, little Sonar has awful allergies some of the worst conformation I've ever seen. We live in an area where I've seen a lot of irresponsible breeders... anyway, in layman's terms, he's bowlegged. He doesn't seem to be in pain, but he doesn't like jumping up into the car or up on the bed like our older yorkie. I'm worried about joint problems now and in the future. What preventative measures can I take and what do I need to be doing now? Sorry if this has already been a topic- I'm new here!

| Firstly, welcome to YT! I like the names of your dogs, Radar and Sonar - very cute. Has Sonar been to the vet to have the allergies and bowed legs assessed? What did the vet say about these issues? Are his allergies a skin issue or other? It sounds to me like he has some sort of growth plate abnormality (but I'm not a vet)...so I'm curious as to what his vet had to say. |

| Hi and Welcome to YT! I agree, I'd ask my vet first. Maybe there's something he could recommend depending on the severity and cause of his condition. Best of luck, and I hope it can be helped. Praying for your little one.

| It's skin allergies; from his food, I think. We're switching to something grain free soon. I'm an LVT student so I recognized the allergies... we're going to get an official diagnosis from the vet. He's such a funny-shaped little guy; I almost wonder if it's some form of dwarfism.... anyone heard of that happening with yorkies? I'll get pics and post them and then let yall know what the vet says when we go... should be some time this week!

| From my understanding, dwarfism can happen in any species. What did the vet say? I'm sure he is a cute little bugger either way. Pics?

| Update! Sorry this has taken so long! Little Sonar went to the vet- we did get a diagnosis of food allergies, and we've switched to Natural Balance for their food and Sonar is on an antihistamine. We didn't get xrays or allergy testing... I thought it would be a little premature to do that at this point. She thinks that he may have been hit by a car sometime before we got him and suggested a joint supplement for him. Also... here's a picture of the tiny guy sleeping!

| What a cute little guy and I also love the name! My Uni has LP and her hind legs point outward. I was giving her Cosequin supplements for a few years. It didn't really seem to make a difference with her knees popping so I stopped. I think it is more important to keep them at a healthy weight, but go ahead and try supplements if you want to. It took me a few years to decide to stop them. Uni also has a hunchback, very unlevel topline. I wonder if that has something to do with her knees or hips also? But so far she doesn't have issues walking, running or jumping. She is now 6 years old.

| Sonar is really hunchbacked too! It's like his little butt just droops down... it's weird. He was thin when we got him and has gained almost a whole pound. He's gotten more athletic since my first post- he keeps us laughing with his silly antics... he loves to run around the living room, up onto the couch, off onto the chair, in a little circle, after Radar, after our cats... I guess the food was just making him feel bad!
