Donating YT 1000 Club Member | Take a notebook with you so that you can take notes. I'm glad that you were able to pinpoint the likely culprit of what may have triggered him getting sick. I only mentioned the mushrooms hoping to help you discover what may've made him so ill.

| I don't know. Is that a blood test? I know the vet came back and said it was not pancreatitis. But this time it could be.... who know!?!? Hes going in today. I'm waiting for them to call me back with an appt time.

| I have had my dogs for 7.5 years now. I feel like a newbie. LOL I have NO idea what treats to give them anymore! I have resorted to giving them baby carrots at this point as treats. The vet said that and green beans were good. I don't know what else to give them anymore! Not that they need treats, but it certainly works as an incentive!! LOL

| Oh no I am so sorry that Fletcher is sick again. I have one that is also very prone to HGE after having several episodes of it. Had to take Allie to Vet this morning for something different. I pray that Fletcher is feeling soon.

| They will need to do a PCV (Packed Cell Volume) to test for HGE. 70% or higher is indicative of HGE. This test can be done in-house, only takes a drop of blood and a few seconds to run. In my experience with HGE, if not treated aggressively enough and for a long enough time, it always came back. That means keeping them on fluids a day or two after tests results return to normal and not introducing food too quickly.

| DH just emailed me that the vet tech called to tell him they would be calling him with an appt time for today soon. LOL Kind of a pointless call, but I guess they are pretty busy today. DH also emailed to tell me that he's limping pretty bad on his right paw and he keeps going to lick it. His words were 'You should just call and make an appt with the vet for today.' PHEW... usually he thinks I'm overreacting! I don't care if your kids are 2 legged skin, or 4 legged fur, a Mama knows when something is just not right. Ive seen diarrhea before and not rushed to take him in, but something in my gut today said to take him in, and I noticed his slight limp this morning, told DH that I couldn't tell which leg it was, it just seemed he had an overall funny walk but I guess it's gotten worse because DH noticed which leg/paw it was and told me to just take him in today.

| Oh, but by 'coming back' I mean he's had it 4x in a year. So it does not come back a week or two later, it comes again 3-4 months later!

| Considering his history with HGE, this should be considered an emergency and he should be seen soon.

| HGE will 'come back' in 2-4 weeks, or months! IMHO, I also believe it can be age related, and eventually they 'grow out of it'. Peek had it three times when he was 5 years old. Hasn't had it since. Maybe they can develop an immunity to it or something... IDK.

| I've seen a few dogs just bleed out from it while being treated for it. Qwners may have waited too long to seek treatment, or the dog may have had something else going on at the same time. When he does see the vet, I'd have them test for HGE first, and look at the foot/leg last if it's not HGE. You don't want them to waste time on the leg if it is HGE.

| Man I hope so! I need him to grow out of this. This mama is going to work herself into high blood pressure with all this. I know how quickly they can go down. Its really hard for me to know this and go to work. Luckily DH works 3 days a week from home.
