Zoeys open heart surgery today!

Picked Zoey up this morning and she is pitiful! Seems like she is in a lot of pain. She did eat for me once we got home but she has been crying nonstop! At least she is home! Her entire side almost is shaved and has a lot of bandaging. Will keep you all posted. Thanks for the prayers and support!!!!!

Poor little baby. I'm so sorry you and she have had to go through this, but I'm so grateful that she now has a full fife to look forward to. I'm sure you will take very good care of her and make her feel safe and loved. I'm assuming she is on pain medication. My little ones in the past were prescribed buporphrenol, and it especially made my little angel, Ashley, very whiney and dependent. Once she was able to go off the medication, she always did so much better. I hope Zoey heals quickly and feels much better very soon.

That was the first thought that popped into my head. As much as I hated to give Ashley pain medication because of how she acted on it, I was not going to let her be in pain. Zoey needs to be able to rest, so that her body can heal, and she should not have to cope with a lot of pain, too.

Yes she got pain meds but not due again until 4. They gave it to her right before they took her chest tube out.

Poor baby. Does she have a narcotic patch? If not, maybe you can ask your vet for one as it delivers pain meds continuously along with the other meds to ease her pain. It's heartbreaking to see them like this.

Gentle hugs and prayers for a quick recovery...............I would call the vet maybe he can give her something for the break through pain.

I am so glad that she is home with you now. I know how pitiful they are when they cry because they are in pain. What kind of pain med's do they have her on? I am also glad to read that she did eat for you.

They have her on Metacam and Tramadol for pain. She only cries when the collar they have her is on. She has already slipped out of it twice. When I put it on her she goes crazy!

Call the vet and tell him she is crying. He'll probably let you give next dose early or bring her in for medicating in the clinic.

Could you put a baby onesie on her,so she cannt get to the site and wont have to wear the cone of shame. When my poodles were neutered,years ago,the vet put a cat collar on them so they couldnt bend to the site but they didnt have to wear the cone.

And maybe if you just sit and hold her that can keep her from licking and scratching at her incision. Plus, it's calming to probably most dogs.
