Oh no! My poor little guy!

Taka has been limping for about a week only when he gets up from a nap or tries to jump, I decided to finally take him to the vet today to see whats going on (after trying to find a vet here in Japan with the language barrier) and....He has Aseptic Necrosis of the Femoral Head aka Legg-Calve-Perthes Disease! This makes me so sad to know he's hurting and there is no treatment to help my little guy except pain meds, there is no cure for it especially since he is only 8m old and can't have surgery. Now he has a soft spot the size of a dime and this! I feel so bad for him
The only thing I know to do is to let the breeder know so he/she doesn't breed the parents again.

Does anyone know anything about this disease? and if its ok for him to still be jumping up and down on the couch/bed? I'm thinking no but just asking.

Why can't he have surgery? FHO is routinely done for LPD.

As I am still so new to this breed, I don't know the answer to your question. However, I would not let him until I researched the disease and found out a more definitive answer. I am so sorry that Taka has this. I will pray for him and guidance to help you find a great vet over there. Take a deep breathe and start hitting the phone book and the web. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

The vet went against surgery for now, he said since we haven't tried pain meds yet to try that first and wait until he is a little older for surgery.

Thanks everyone for the help and prayers...I've been researching more about this disease and surgery is the only tx recommended ;( I have a follow up with the vet next week and he will determine what is next if meds aren't working as we'll as we would like. Until then, looks like he's doing ok with pain meds and supplements. He also needs to be neutered since I will not be breeding him anymore with this disease. Poor guy

If anyone knows anything else I will take any advice.

If he is limping it is really painful for him. I personally would not wait for surgery. I have had three pups who had this surgery (FHO) and they did very well. Two of my personal pups have had it as I mentioned in your other thread.

Personally, I had a board certified surgeon do mine ... be very careful who does this surgery. It is more expensive, but I don't have much trust in any surgeon doing such surgeries on my pups unless they are boarded. I met a lady one day whose pup had a sciatic nerve cut by a vet who did this surgery...that should never ever have happened. She was at the specialist hoping for some kind of fix....I don't know what the outcome was as I never saw her after that.

I am quite frankly puzzled as to why your vet thinks he is too young for surgery. He could be right, but I would recommend a second opinion by a board certified surgeon. Your puppy is in pain and it is not going to go away. The only way to fix this is surgery.
