MY 8Wk PUPPY IS DOESN'T LOOK GOOD PLEASE HELP! PLEASE HELP! My yorkie just had pups a few weeks ago. She had 2 boys and 1 girl. The first that came out was a Boy followed by the girl. Then there was a good 20 - 30mins that went by and out came another boy. But you could see that he was skinnier than the others. Stayed for nights on end with him to make sure he nursed on the mother. He then all of a sudden started looking real good. God a good coat of fur. Fattened up a bit and was great. Then a few days ago he seems to not want to move, his eyes have that "premi" look that I'm sure if you went through this know the the look. He feeds on the mom once in awhile but we have to isolate him with her so that the others don't monopolize. I have some tiny bottles that I got from the vet and my wife left to get beef liver because we read on this website that the "juice" from the meat will help. ANY OTHER ADVICE? I am dealing with 4 little kids crying over the situation and we are trying to keep it together to resurrect this little guy. :-( |
BTW the puppy is 8 weeks old. |
load up mama and babies and take them to the vet. Do you nave any Nutri-drops or Nutri-cal? He could be hypoglycemic in addition to being a little dehydrated. Vet asap. |
As a "quickie booster" have you tried Nutrical for puppies? If you don't have that you can rub a little kayro syrup on his gums. Sounds like this pup desperately needs to go to the vet for examination. Good luck and please keep us updated. |
At eight weeks old, can't he eat other food? I agree with Chattiesmom, he needs a vet check and here's a link about low blood sugar and how to resolve it. Karo syrup can be a lifesaver. Toy Breed Hypoglycemia |
Well, unfortunately we just don't have the money for a vet visit. My job situation changed drastically and quickly and we are really in a bad situation right now. Trying to find a way to help with what I can afford. |

Please do the right thing-- Quote:
No money for a vet visit but you bred a litter of dogs. That's not nice. Do the right thing now and give up the dogs to someone who can treat them right. I've been in bad money situations in my life. It's just plain lousy. You have options on how to care for your dogs and it's going to take a big heart to do the right thing. |
If you can't afford vet care for your dog when he seems ill, please do surrender him so he can get the needed help. Cal the vet, Humane Society, SPCA, Yorkie Rescue in your area, whomever. It's the kind and humane thing to do. You brought this little dog into the world and owe him good care and a chance to thrive. In the meantime, I would get some Nutrical or local honey, Karo Syrup or something on his gums while you get ready to take him in. |
I agree about the Karo Syrup. When my little one was about that age I had to give her some. She got wobbly, etc. You can just rub on their gums. They do not have to swallow, the gums will absorb. This info came straight from a vet. I have never tried Nutrical, but people on here say it's even better. I assume you get that at PetsMart or somewhere like that. Good luck with the baby boy! |
We have members in BR. Not sure there is room for him, but we could try to help find someone who can take this puppy if you decide to surrender him for appropriate care. |

care credit- most vets have this...call your vet and get the little guy in there- also add some clear kayo syrup to some water and try to get him to drink from the bottles. If that doesn't work, put the syrup on your finger and put it on the roof of his mouth like some ppl do with peanut butter. Keep doing this as you drive him to the vet- like every 10 to 15 mins. |

I know everyone is offering karo or nutrical, etc but how do we know it's hypoglycemia? He was doing good, fattening up & all of a sudden, not too good...what if this puppy NEEDS vet care? What if it's liver shunt? It can be so many other things. Hoping & praying it is a simple hypoglycemic episode, but the OP needs to decide how they're going to take care of these pups & so sorry you're going through this difficult time. |
