Khloe is still with us though she seems no better to me. The vet had me pick her up yesterday much to my dismay and I am caring for her round the clock. She has to have 40ml of water which is about 14 syringes full and 70ml of a soft critical care food through a syringe. Basically I am not sleeping because it takes about one hour to get the food and water into her. She really really doesn't want to take it but I'm not going to give up. She tries to stand up but falls over and through the night last night she was wimpering and so I just got up and held her close to me. I'm giving her everything I can possibly can and seems she isn't imroving. Today I took her back to the vet and he drained the swelling off of her head a bit with a needle and then gave her a long lasting steroid shot along with 10cc of subcutaneous fluids. We do a recheck on Tuesday and if there isn't MAJOR improvements, I will ask him to put her out of her misery. The amount of weight she has lost since Tuesday is astounding and I would guess her to weigh about 12 oz. She is almost 14 weeks old and this can't be a good thing. I want to see a sign that she is not suffering and then I will continue to do whatever it takes to help her make it. The worst part of all is the not knowing what she is feeling. That is the part that is haunting me and causing me so much stress. I will again update here daily given that I have an internet connection. Khloe still needs as many prayers as possible and I could use some too. Thank you to all of you kind hearted members here.

I don't think you can ask for major improvement by Tuesday. Khloe will need to take baby steps. If you just can't do it, maybe a yorkie rescue can take over her nursing and treatments?

I would ask my vet about giving her a little Karo syrup. It is high calorie wise and used to treat hypoglycemia is small dogs. I don't think it could hurt anything, but please ask. This might keep her weight up a little bit. This is one of the most touching and heartbreaking stories I have read on here. Like the last post, I am not sure you will see major improvements that quickly with her injuries and given the fact that she just had vaccines. Apparently they can play havoc on the neurological system from posts I have read on here. Still praying so hard for poor Khloe and her family and you, in particular.

NutriCal is much better than Karo syrup but I think she needs a specialist. It doesn't sound to me like her current vet has any ideas of how to move forward with her treatment.

Please seek out a teaching hospital or neuro specialist near you. This baby is only 13 weeks old

If this baby had a feeding tube, a PEG tube,...they put it into their stomach or into the intestine and you feed them thru the tube.....you can feed as well as give the water she needs to stay alive.......it is quick and sooooooo much easier for you and her too....you really need to have a specialist take over her care. They can help lessen the enormous load you are having trying to do all you are doing....this little girl is fighting so hard to live.......this absolutely breaks my heart......

I debated on whether to post this, but I just can't stop thinking about little Khloe so am going to put this out here and hope for the best.

I discussed Khloe's accident and treatment with my Vet (who is also my DIL) and without seeing the x-ray of Khloe's skull fracture she gave me several things to consider.

The first thing is the healing process for this kind of injury, and how it takes time for the steriods to kick in and to show improvement. She said tuesday was too soon to expect to see an improvement in Khloe, but the fact that your Vet wasn't ready to give up on her was very positive sign.

I also explained how Khloe couldn't stand on her own and she said that could be from the pain meds, physical weakness, or swelling in the brain from the fracture BUT, as long as the spinal cord wasn't damaged, it's probably temporary. She said your vet would have seen that in the x-ray and advised you accordingly.

One last thing ... if I read your update correctly, your vet drained fluid off her brain with a needle? I didn't know if the Vet that performed the procedure was a specialist or not, but my DIL was completely surprised! She said a Vet doesn't do that, especially in the little ones, the risk is far too great. She said that procedure is done by a Specialist.

I definitely came away from the conversation with a better understanding of brain injury/fracture, treatment and rehabilitation, but I didn't feel the the situation was without hope. Hang on, Lori, we are all pulling for your little girl!

Just wondering how your babies were doing. Hoping the best for this little girl , and that your other baby is well now, too. {{{Hugs}}}

My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your little one. Where in Illinois are you located? Have you been able to find a neurologist for another opinion? That is what I would do first...hope that is exactly what you are doing. Please keep us all updated and know that we care deeply. My heart just aches for you...bless your heart for giving so much for your baby.

Thank you so very much for speaking with your DIL vet. It makes me feel so wonderful to know she has hope for my baby girl. I have great news to report here. Early today (Monday) Khloe was just staring off and not really moving. I was having to force liquid and the syringe food on her which was awful. This went on until about 1 pm. At 3 I went to pick up my daughter from school and when I returned home I heard weak barking coming from the basket where I am keeping her. I was astounded to find her standing and wagging her tail for me. I nearly fell over in shock because only an hour or so beforehand she was lifeless. I put her down onto the carpet and she actually walked to my little girl. Tears of joy were blinding me to say the least. Throughout this evening she has drank somes water from a bowl on her own, eaten a bit of boiled chicken breast and even tried to follow Louie around the room. Never have I seen so much improvement in a couple of hours so I have deemed it a true miracle. Many many prayers went up for her and no doubt they were answered. She is still very far from normal but I now have a lot of hope where early today it was diminishing! Thank you seems like such small words to express the gratitude I feel for all of the members here who prayed and offered encouraging words. At this time I feel like I won the lottery or something. I'm simply giddy! Tomorrow afternoon we head back to the vet for a recheck and I think he will be very surprised.

** as for the vet draining the fluid from her brain, it wasn't off of her brain I suppose because it was just the water/blood that had built up under the skin where the concussion was at. He just stuck the needle into the puffy area and removed some of the fluid to take the pressure off of her skull.

Thank God.... that is such good news. I will continue to pray for her full recovery, and I too believe this is a miracle.

Thank you for the wonderful update. We have all been so worried. I'm sure she has a ways to go, but this is sure encouraging at this point.
