The first thing is the healing process for this kind of injury, and how it takes time for the steriods to kick in and to show improvement. She said tuesday was too soon to expect to see an improvement in Khloe, but the fact that your Vet wasn't ready to give up on her was very positive sign.

I also explained how Khloe couldn't stand on her own and she said that could be from the pain meds, physical weakness, or swelling in the brain from the fracture BUT, as long as the spinal cord wasn't damaged, it's probably temporary. She said your vet would have seen that in the x-ray and advised you accordingly.

One last thing ... if I read your update correctly, your vet drained fluid off her brain with a needle? I didn't know if the Vet that performed the procedure was a specialist or not, but my DIL was completely surprised! She said a Vet doesn't do that, especially in the little ones, the risk is far too great. She said that procedure is done by a Specialist.

I definitely came away from the conversation with a better understanding of brain injury/fracture, treatment and rehabilitation, but I didn't feel the the situation was without hope. Hang on, Lori, we are all pulling for your little girl!

Thank you so very much for speaking with your DIL vet. It makes me feel so wonderful to know she has hope for my baby girl. I have great news to report here. Early today (Monday) Khloe was just staring off and not really moving. I was having to force liquid and the syringe food on her which was awful. This went on until about 1 pm. At 3 I went to pick up my daughter from school and when I returned home I heard weak barking coming from the basket where I am keeping her. I was astounded to find her standing and wagging her tail for me. I nearly fell over in shock because only an hour or so beforehand she was lifeless. I put her down onto the carpet and she actually walked to my little girl. Tears of joy were blinding me to say the least. Throughout this evening she has drank somes water from a bowl on her own, eaten a bit of boiled chicken breast and even tried to follow Louie around the room. Never have I seen so much improvement in a couple of hours so I have deemed it a true miracle. Many many prayers went up for her and no doubt they were answered. She is still very far from normal but I now have a lot of hope where early today it was diminishing! Thank you seems like such small words to express the gratitude I feel for all of the members here who prayed and offered encouraging words. At this time I feel like I won the lottery or something. I'm simply giddy! Tomorrow afternoon we head back to the vet for a recheck and I think he will be very surprised.

** as for the vet draining the fluid from her brain, it wasn't off of her brain I suppose because it was just the water/blood that had built up under the skin where the concussion was at. He just stuck the needle into the puffy area and removed some of the fluid to take the pressure off of her skull.
