| ![]() Ugghhhh. It's been an awful day. Couldn't eat or sleep today. Just waiting until he is ready to go. This house is like a tomb today. Have kept TV going all day and watching everything to keep my mind of BAT results and the way he acted last night, worrying what that was and what in the world tonight will be like after his BAT rich meal. If that wasn't abnormal behavior last night from poisons in the brain or liver damage or something like that I don't know what it could have been. He went from normal, happy to anxious and unbelievably restless and scratching in less than an hour. I have never seen a dog stay awake all night before. That, to me, was liver shunt or one of those type disorders' aberrant behavior manifestation. What in the world else could it have been? Well, it's about time to go get my little boy! Please pray that he has a peaceful night.

| ![]() It sounds more like a food allergy than LS... I'd ask the vet about it and an alternate food.

| ![]() He's home and miserable, rubbing his head and face on everything and scratching with his hind feet until his lower under parts seem hot and red. He can't really be still. I know they fed him a fatty meal at the vet's during his BAT and he's not eating now - just drinking water and rolling around and itching. The vet said I could give him 2.5 ml. Children's Benadryl q 6 hrs. for this. He's now 6.3 lbs. Is that not a huge dog and would you give it to your baby? I gave him 1/4 teaspoon of it last night and after an hour of quiet, he seemed more amped and restless than ever. I'm just stymied. His tail has been down and he's seeking something to scratch himself against since he's been home. The only other time in his life he's been like this was after starting him on Royal Canin GI and he was just like this within a couple hours of his first meal and it went down hill from there. Once he got off that and on the Hill's I/D GI, it all stopped almost instantly. Friday night we started him on Hill's I/D Low Fat and he began doing this a little bit Sunday and then stopped and then in earnest last night. But he wasn't eating that much of it until yesterday - that's the first day he ate normally and after his second meal of it, the scratching started in bad. His night was miserable and it seems like tonight is going to be the same. I'm so scared to give him that much Benadryl in case it sedates him first and then he's so hyper his heartrate gets wild. Would a 1/8 of 1/4 Valium 5 mg. be better - just sedate him? He wouldn't itch when he's asleep would he? He's had 1/4 of a Valium 5 mg. before and he went to sleep for a while. It was very early on when I'd first gotten him and he was wild and panicking all the time. Vet said sedate him for the night and it worked. He never needed it again until one very bad panic attack he had since. Same thing - he just slept for 2 or 3 hours. What do you all think?

| ![]() I chickened out on the diazepam(thinking if the ER Vet has to give him Benadryl during the night it might not mix well with the diazepam/Valium) and gave him 2 ml. Children's Benadryl Liquid by mouth at 7:45 pm and put a cold cloth over his pelvic area where he's so red and hot and he's lying in my lap q u i e t 9 minutes later! If he wakes very hyper after a while and his HR is high, we''re ready to go to the ER Vet for help tonight. He's been through enough in this last 24 hours so one way or another, this baby is having a restful night here or at the hospital. Pray that he will stay oout for a while and give his little body a chance to rest. He apparetnly barked all day at the vet and was too amped and excited there to scratch or somehow they just didn't notice it. But he came home tail tucked and the minute I put him down he began wallowing, scratching and rubbing his body and face against the walls and anything. Couldn't be still. Looking at me and whining for help. I so hated to dose him with Benadryl again after last night I was hoping his fatigue would kick in and knock him out but it never did. Finally, I had to act and just get him to the hospital if he gets worse from this after a while. I'm scared silly his heart will race and go into fib or something from that Benadryl since it hyperexcited him last night after the first hour. Praise God he's still asleep at 8:00 pm! It's worth gold to see Tibbe relaxed and at rest finally. I don't think he could have taken much more of his state of every nerve alerted, excited and itching. He was a mess. But my clothes are laid out and everything read to drive the 7 minuites to the hospital if we have to go.

| ![]() While the original issue does require a BAT, this restless itching sounds food related. ?how about c and rice? Benadryl makes some sleepy and some hyper. It won't do much for food allergies. Your vet's dose is correct. 1/2 tsp..

YT 2000 Club Member | ![]() My prayers for little Tibbe. I would see if he is having a food allergy or is he highly allergic to fleas. Food allergies cause alot of scratching. I had that problem with my poodle and had to put her on a venison diet. it cleared her up. I am so sorry sweet little Tibbe is going through this. I hope you get down to the bottom of his problem soon. Can you bathe him in a hypo-allergic shampoo to relieve the itching. I love this little guy and hope he is better really soon. You are in Texas, are there fleas there bugging him? |

YT 2000 Club Member | ![]() Try feeding him a very bland diet and see if he scratches. I would bet it is the food. Some dogs need a different diet. I just talked to a Yorkie breeder who feeds her dog all raw food. Maybe Tibbe needs that. You said he itched after he ate. |

| ![]() I'm the one who would up taking 1/2 of a diazepam! I'm a wreck too, so worried how this night is going to go and what's causing all of this. I do think the food change is likely the cause but gosh, he needs a lot fat diet and what in the world can I do if it makes him this miserable vs. having all that tummy trouble or aggravating a shunt situation. I'm so tense I'm about to break into pieces so I dosed myself. Suddenly, life looks a little easier and the rough edges have been smoothed in these last 10 minutes. It feels good to that that knot in my stomach is getting smaller and softer. Wisih I could sleep! I'm going to stretch out beside Tibbe. I just replaced the cool washcloth on his lower underside under him and put him blanket back over his botton half to keep the breeze from the fan from chilling him. Also put a little cool washcloth on his hot eats. His pads are cool as is the rest of him - just the parts he's been scratching are hot. Hope he's cooling those places down some as this poor little thing rests. Uh oh, he just puked up some stuff and is reverse sneezing a bit. got to go.

| ![]() He just can't eat meat or chicken without getting terrible tummy trouble - so much gas and distention and restlessness with meat and then he gets constipated, spits up bile. I don't know what's he's going to have to go to if he can no longer eat his Hill's I/D GI.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | ![]() I have had excellent results with Cali on Atopica for her terrible allergies. She started out on it every day and now years later she does well on 1 a week. We tried everything else to stop her scratching and nothing worked until the Atopica. Just a thought if it is allergies. I am praying you and Tibbe get a good nights sleep.
