| ![]() This is what I found. Colitis is an inflammation of the colon. It is responsible for about 50 percent of cases of chronic diarrhea in dogs. The signs of colitis are painful defecation, prolonged squatting and straining, flatulence, and passing many small stools mixed with blood and mucus. These signs can easily be mistaken for constipation. The usual cause of colitis is one of the inflammatory bowel diseases. Whipworms are another frequent cause. Fungal colitis is uncommon. It targets dogs with immune deficiency and lowered resistance. Prototheca colitis is a rare disease caused by an algae. It produces a severe form of colitis and can become systemic. Treatment has not been successful. I feel so sorry for any of our fur babies when they get sick or injured. I sure hope your babies are well in no time.

| ![]() Another reason why I don't think it's colitis bc all 4 have it...colitis is not contagious, but giardia is.

| ![]() After the vet took a stool sample from Sapphire... she (Sapphire) had a BM, a large sausage looking thing... with a bit of mucous at the end, and she looked like she was straining a bit. The vet said it looks like a colitis type poop. They all seem to be improving. Keeping my fingers crossed. They're all being angels about taking their meds, so I can't complain. I hope they all feel better soon. Thanks for all the well wishes and suggestions... ![]()
