Well bless you for taking her in and trying to help her. I know the cost of vets these days. Our shih tzu was abandoned and we adopted him. He is two years old and now suffers from juvenile cataracts. The surgery is going to cost about $3500.00 but before that we have to cure his liver problem. His enzyme problem is almost cured right now but it's costing us over $500.00. So I know how you feel. I have the Care Credit card also but I think this is going to go over and above the limit on the card. Some people on this forum get a bit carried away because everybody loves their babies but for the most part this is a great forum.
Anyway our prayers go out to you and Oreo.
I wanted to let you know about her original home: I found Oreo and Mia by chance. I heard about a woman who had about 50 give or take a few, Yorkies. She is an older woman who is trying to breed the 'perfect' Yorkie. She has Biewer and Standard Yorkies and measures their legs, height, weight, everything. If they don't measure up then she just continues on. I took in two of the ones she felt didn't measure up. My sister took in two and my best friend also took in two. She doesn't ask for anything for them because she sees them as imperfect, or damaged. They are the sweetest little babies, completely loving and so in need of love. I appreciate all of your posts, and am thankful for this forum for sure! I called the authorities on this woman to get her help because there is no way anyone has the right to breed and then throw away but because she is out of city limits, there is not anyone willing to do anything yet. it is very frustrating!

Like I stated, I do not ask questions in substitution for medical care, I asked questions for advice and to learn things from the experience of other pet owners. Obviously saying I was misunderstood was an understatement. Love my dogs, do anything for my dogs, will always do so and I guess maybe this isn't the right forum for me.
Hello everyone:

I am sorry that things got so emotional. One thing to remember is that when typing responses, it is hard to determine emotion in typed word so that one statement from one person may sound like an admonition to another. I am sorry that I got so emotional, just desperate and confused and deeply in love with my babies. One thing I can say about everyone on this thread is that we all seem to love our dogs. SusieQ, thank you for your support, LadyJane, thank you for your informative concern. I will try to keep in mind the limitations of the typed word. Thank you all and I am sorry if anything I typed caused anyone any issues. I hope we all help eachother in the future and support eachother now! Have a great day all and I will let you know about what the vet says. One thing she did say is that a 1/2 pill of benedryl is ok but NEVER give a dog a decongestant. It messes with them severely and can cause them to go wacko for a while when on it.

You have nothing to apologize for. So glad your baby is okay

Hi there, on your message about your little baby, I have had some experience on skittish babies. The best advice I can give is to be patient. You are showing her a whole new way of life! My Oreo and Mia came from a breeding nightmare, they just weren't old enough to breed yet. They hadn't been handled and were very afraid of people. We just made very deliberate and slow movements around them, gave them lots of love and were sure not to corner them or make them feel like they were out of control in a situation. Neither of them know what to do with toys yet, they still look at king like he is crazy but they will come around. I think the best thing to do is to move slow. Her entire life has been used as a tool, you are showing her another way of life. Although you have a lot to overcome, a loving heart can go a long ways to overcome a cold hand! Good luck and I commend you on making the choice to take on a baby that may not always be someones first choice!

I'm so glad that you and others you know were able to rescue these poor little pups. That breeder sounds like a horrible person and I wish someone would shut her puppy mill down. She obviously has no love for the little dogs she breeds. Does her breeding factory have a name?

Thank you Cindy. That is very good advice. Bear, one of our males (we have two), seems to be getting her out of her shell more than anything. I kind of figured he would be the one to do so. You are right, her whole life she has been used as a money-making machine and was not given much attention. Well, let me tell you, she is becoming a little diva pretty fast, LOL! I don't know if you know the story of my Roxie, but she died one month ago today from eating a sago palm seed that she got in our backyard. We had no idea it was poison and it had been in our yard for 15 years. It has been horrible and I still cry every single day. I keep thinking I will wake up from this nightmare. Penny was my lifeline and I think I was hers, too. We needed each other so badly. I still cry and grieve over Roxie and always will, but Penny has made it bearable for me.

Your babies are just precious! Looks like they are on the spoiled side, too!

So sad what happened with your precious Roxie. Kudos to you for being able to help another in such need... not everyone can do that. It does take time... one of my females that came from a not so bad situation 3 years ago is still 'coming out of her shell'. She, just this week, started playing with me on the bed... chasing after my hands. She hasn't played with any toys yet either. HAving other dogs around I think helps them immensely

I don't know of the name, it is over in Idaho and I only knew of it by chance. She feels like she is on a mission from 'GOD'. She is here to create the perfect Yorkie. Unfortunately she is elderly and unable to care responsibly for these babies. When I got these girls they had never been groomed or bathed, never really been handled, and were stinky and hungry and dirty. But they were soooooo adorable I fell in love at first sight. We tried to take in another one but she was so hard to handle she was trying to bite my children's faces and became so skittish that she would hide and growl and be very hostile. I found out that the woman kept her in a cage in a bathtub most of the time and only got rid of her because of her inability to produce a "quality" pup. I found a woman with an education in helping emotionally challenged dogs and she took her in for a little 'rehabilitation' so it is seemingly a better fit for the baby girl. I have to say, of all the dogs I have had in my life, the two girls I have give love so purely, I have never felt so strong for an animal. They teach me something every day. I LOVE MY GIRLS!!!

Thank you for your kind words. I think Penny and I kind of saved each other. She needed a home and I sure needed another little girl to love. I think having other dogs around helps, too. She is kind of playing with Bear now and I hope the toys might be next. She has given me something to look forward to again. I love my boys, Bear and Winston, but the little girls are so special!
