Died during surgery, what are her rights? Need advice..

Probably the very best thing you can do is search for another Yorky who will ease the loss. It doesn't mean you loved your other any less but a distraction will help you move on.

Just because the outcome is not favorable, does not elude to it being malpractice. If the autopsy said something other than unknown causes like: ruptured spleen, etc. There MAY have been some level of malpractice.


I am sorry for your loss. It seems that you took several precautions to ensure that your baby was able to handle the surgery. Some things are just out of our control. I hope that you are able to find peace with what happened. As others have said, with these little ones, it is always a tough decision to put them other because there is always a risk.

thats why I'm not getting Emy spayed....my neighbor had a yorkie, never
got her spayed and she lived to be 17 years old....the people that show
their dogs at Westminster dog show, I'm sure none of those dogs are spayed
cause they want to sell the pups for big money....I basically live alone all
the time and she isn't around other dogs ever....already been through one
heat, was no big deal, kept her inside.....hardly any blood, she kept
herself clean...twice a year is no big deal....

I'm just so angry because everyone pushed me into having her fixed, and I said repeatedly that she was fine and I didn't want to because was worried. Awww man.... I really hope that you find peace with all this. You shouldn't blame yourself for falling into 'peer pressure'. You obviously felt that the spay was necessary to protect her health or some of the other things mentioned by others. Did you research? If you did this it is further reason for you to not blame yourself. Just because the outcome was bad, does not mean that you made a bad choice although it certainly seems that way to you now. Also, you are within your right to make whatever choices you feel, but do not let this outcome be the sole dictation with a future furbaby. It kind of like, just because you failed at something doesn't mean give up. Each furbaby is different. I really hope you find peace and I am sure you will in time.

I know how you feel because I have an 18 month old that I'm going to have spayed now that she is at a better weight and health, and I'm already getting a big pit in my stomach just thinking about it, but I know it should be done in order to save her from other problems.
