| Good news! Columbo's bile acid test is normal! 1.1 pre and 17 post! So, no liver function issues! PHEW! Just waiting for serum calcium results now, which will be another week. The vet wants to rule out any issues before cleaning his teeth because he has already lost half of them and now there are more loose teeth. He wants to rule out any metabolic reasons for the loose teeth. Since his Albumin and Blood Calcium were low (corrected to low end of normal), there might have been a reason he was losing calcium and having the teeth issues (other than just being a yorkie!). I asked him what the serum calcium test was for and he said to rule out hypoparathyroidism, although it is fairly rare. However, if he had it, treating it may cause some of the teeth to be saved. So if that is normal, then he will go ahead and have his dental and unfortunately lose more teeth. Anyway, I still see this as good news as there is nothing wrong with his liver!! So thank you for the prayers and well wishes because they worked. I'm going to the store now to buy a senior food that has a protein in the mid 20s.. |
