| Cataracts in the Eye Hi guys, My yorkie is turning 4 tomorrow(yay!) but when I got home from school today I noticed that one of his eyes looked cloudy. At first I thought it was just the dim lighting, but upon close inspection I noticed that the pupil of one of his eyes was black (as always) while the other a cloudy white. I am taking him to the vet tomorrow, but I would like to know if anyone knows of any remedies or cures for cataracts asides from surgery. So that I am able to ask the vet about them tomorrow. D; Thanks In Advance!! |

| Happy birthday to your boy. I am sorry to hear about his eye, but I am glad you are seeing a vet right away. It might not be a cataract, but if it is, the doctor will be able to give you the options. I may be wrong, but I think the options are surgery or allowing the cataract to progress, which will lead to blindness. If the cataract is left, it should be monitored to make sure it doesn't lead to glaucoma, which can be painful and cause loss of the eye. I don't recall if eye drops are prescribed for cataracts, not that the eye drops would reverse the condition. Does your boy squint or paw at the eye? Sometimes a corneal ulcer can cause a white looking film. That can be treated with eye drops. Let us know how it goes tomorrow. I'll be thinking of you and your guy.

| If it wasn't there this morning, I'm guessing it is a corneal ulcer. Let us know what the vet says tomorrow. Best wishes.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | It sounds like Kristin said it could be a corneal ulcer. I am glad you are getting him to the vet tomorrow. Good luck and keep us posted.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Any update? If a dog this young does have cataracts, make sure your vet tests for diabetes.
