| I just want to say that you are doing everything you can to help him, so take some comfort in that. Another food from home besides the boiled chicken and white rice that is ok for him to eat would be to try a scrambled egg. When Columbo had a sour stomach, the vet said any of those are bland and ok for him to eat. You might try the egg as something different the next time he doesn't want to eat. |

| Update Its been a looong day... This morning i delivered Billy at the vet, and sitting at home waiting for them to call is nerve-wracking. The results of the acid test take a few days to receive, but i got the result of the ultrasound. Fluid in the abdomen, liver shunt and possibly a little larger heart because of the stress his body has put to it. Got some medications from the vet so he can manage over the weekend. I have called one of Norways specialists on the liver shunt surgery, a very nice and educated man. Have also talked to the vet, the breeder, my husband and our daughters. When the test result (cant say if anymore) comes back positive we are going to put him to sleep. It would be best for the puppy and us. My heart cryes, im having a big stone in my stumach and headache. Thanks again for the prayers, and your care. It does help.

| Unbelivable.... Its been a weird day.... This morning i drove to the vet, to give him a shot for the nausea. Hoping he would eat. Returned to the vet for the second shot about 6 hours later, and they told me they got the result of the acid blood test. And it was negative, result 5 after eating... But they did see it in ultrasound...?? Two shunts in fact... So when i got home i called a surgery in oslo, the only vet clinic that operate liver shunts. Hesays that when ALAT and ALKP is normal and the acid test is normal he dont think that the dog got a shunt. Phew! But then many questions raises in my head... What did they see in the ultrasound? A larger heart, shunts and fluid in the lungs?? The dog is much better today. he is on his second day of lactulose, flagyl and nausea killers. I'M GONNA CALL THE VET TOMORROW TO GET SOME ANSWERS, I DONT WANNA PLAY THIS GAME ANYMORE! Sorry for yelling, im sick and tired. Well, so now we are back to the beginning, not knowing whats wrong with the dog. The surgeon told me that he would recomend 2-3 weeks of medication and then take him of his meds and see how he is doing. And a new blood test after some time.

| Thank you, and yes it does feel encouraging that he feels better. And my girls are so happy that we dont have to put him to sleep (not yet anyway). My oldest girl (15) was last evening so sad and crying. When i drowe to the vet yesterday the played high way to hell on the radio, and this morning they played cherio (monroes). Well, i got a breakdown in the car this morning, after beeing so strong for the girls and myself. It really is a rollercoaster ride.

| I am so happy that Billy's tests came back negative. I hope my post isn't upsetting to you as I know you are going through a lot and so torn over what to do. I think I would put a lot of weight on the opinion of surgeon you spoke with in Oslo. It sounds like he is very familiar with liver shunt and you said yourself it was very rare in Norway, which I assume means the vets you are dealing with aren't as familiar with it. I find it troubling that they say he has fluid in his lungs and and a heart problem. Then they say it's fluid in the abdomen and liver shunt. Now you find his tests are negative. And he seems to be responding to the antibiotics. You at first felt it was kennel cough because it is going around. Based on your posts so far, I don't have total faith that your vets know exactly what is going on. You said if it was a shunt, you were going to euthanize Billy. I feel like he is so young and that if these vets are wrong, you will have euthanized your beloved pup based on the wrong information. I'm glad you are going to wait, but I am worried that when you speak to them again, they will tell you more bad news and it's sounds like they really don't know. I know this is very difficult for you and your family, but I hope that you will give Billy time to possibly recover before doing anything. If he is seriously ill and putting him to sleep is your choice, then giving him a few more months will confirm the illness. I'm just worried your vets are incorrect and if they are wrong, you will have euthanized Billy for nothing. It sounds like time will tell, so giving Billy plenty of time, like a couple months, to either recover or be proven he is seriously ill is what I hope you will do. There is always time to make that very difficult decision and if you don't have any doubts as to his condition, then you won't have the nagging doubt and questions if you did the right thing. I hope my post didn't come across the wrong way. I am so sorry for your situation. I just have this feeling that the vets might not be correct and that it might not be that serious. I hope I'm right. We are all praying for your little guy. |

| Sending prayers that they are able to diagnose what is going on and that it is something that can be treated with medication and diet. Best wishes and prayers to you and your family. At least you still have your sweet Billy with you and he is feeling better. Billy

| Aren't the symptoms of enlarged heart and lungs and ascites usually indicators for congestive heart failure? Did they ever do a cardiac Doppler?
