Wylie is post-LP Surgery 1 Attachment(s) Wylie had LP surgery yesterday - we picked him up about 7:30pm (his surgery was delayed all day bc of emergencies). He is doing really well, although last night was tough when he started crying at 11:30pm and we couldn't help him :(...we gave an extra 1/2 dose of pain meds, tried to help him pee, soothed him...all kinds of stuff, he was miserable. Finally, on the 4th time we put him on the pee pad, he peed BIG TIME. And right after that, he slept thru the night. Poor guy had to pee so bad, but just couldn't figure out how to do it with us supporting his back end. No poo poo yet, but I'm not surprised. For those whose kiddos went thru LP surg, how long until they went poo? The wraps come off Thursday, and I'm sure he'll be more comfy after that. Look at his poor behind - all shaved! It's like a reverse mullet - party in the front, business in the back - poor baby! Wylie requests you don't show this to the female furs on here bc his man-package is totally exposed. |
I am so sorry to him like that but know that he will feel better one day soon & be back to deviling his momma and daddy and siblings! Poor little guy looks like he's been through it and back again. Get well soon, Buddy. |
I'm so sorry I haven't been on a lot lately and didn't know Wylie was having LP surgery on both legs. Poor baby. When Pixie had hers on one leg she was pretty quiet for 2-3 days after surgery and slept most of the time. I do remember she didn't poop for a couple of days. She wasn't eating much at first either. I will keep Wylie in my prayers for a speedy recovery. |
Ny heart breaks for you and Wylie. Your poor beautiful little boy! It must be so difficult seeing your little one in pain. Try to keep in mind that Wylie will feel so much better after the recuperation is over. Your big, huge heart filled with love will help get Wylie through this. I hope Wylie heals very quickly and that he is soon free from pain. |
Wylie, I am relieved to hear that surgery went well! (Where were the headlines that you were having surgery? How did you escape the pupperazzi?) Reverse mullet, lol. I hope all of your nights ahead are more peaceful, and I wish you a speedy recovery. Can you start walking right away, or do you have to stay on bedrest for awhile? Sending gentle hugs to you little guy. |
Oh wow poor little guy! I really hope he gets to feeling better and praying for a speedy recovery! His photo just about broke my heart... Poor baby looks wore out. How are you holding up? |
Hope Wylie has a fast recovery! I promise not to show Piper Wylie's man-package :) |
Poor little guy...I hate when there down and out...Mini had the Leggs Perthe surgery, it was awful...breaks your heart....hope hes feeling better very soon...how are the other pups acting toward him? |

The vet said not to let him just sleep and lay around all day. He said to get him up each hour and have him stand and try to take a few steps while using a towel sling around his torso to hold him up. He said dogs do much better in recovery if you get them up and gently moving. I think this will be easier once we get the wraps off. Still though, I feel bad getting him up when he really just seems to want to sleep. Quote:
THANKS everyone for your sweet comments . |

I'd say he's on the mend if he's eating well. That's great news! |

Wylie sweetie get better soon!! You have a brother and sister to drive crazy. That doesn't happen on its own. ;) Glad your mommy hasn't lost her sense of humor. |
Oh gosh...he looks SO out of it! Poor pup :( I hope he's back to his old self real soon. |
Awww...poor baby with his nekkid bottom! I'm glad that his surgery went well and hope for a speedy recovery! |
Awwww man, that picture is so heartbreaking. ((Hugs)) to Wylie-Man! |
Ann, that warm moist wash cloth to his little TT may work just as effectively om Wylie as it does on humans! Next time he has to pee and he is hurting and wont let go of it, ,put a warm wet cloth on his TT, kinda to the middle and back so he can pee out the end of his penis....it may relax him enough that he can go.....Bless his little heart..... |
Poor Wylie I hope you feel better soon! Wow both legs at the same time Buster had only one done and he was so uncomfortable. I think he did not poop for two days. Best wishes Wylie HEAL! From a website Even if you have regular bowel movements prior to having surgery, you are likely to experience post-operative constipation. Exposure to anesthetics and narcotics, alterations in your diet and fluid intake and reduced physical activity contribute to this constipation. |
Oh poor baby |
Ann, is there a specific reason you decided to do both legs at once? Just curious, because my mom's Pom is going to need it done and so we have been talking about it recently...when my neighbors did it with their dog, they told me there was no way they could do both legs at once and that it was way too difficult in recovery. Poor Wylie! That looks rough! Hope he feels better soon! |
awwww.... Riley and I sent extra hugs and hope for a speedy recovery!! xoxo. :) |
Sending prayers for speedy healing. I didn't know they could use their legs, I thought that they had to have no movement for a few weeks, I'm glad that's not the case. I've heard pumpkin is great for the intestines, it stops diarrhea as well as relive constipation, so maybe a tablespoon of that might get things working. That was always one of the worst parts of surgery for me, lol, next time, I’ll try pumpkin. Wylie’s is probably extremely proud of his man package, and he should be! I'm not showing it to Joey though, I don't want him to get a complex! |
I hope he has a speedy recovery |
That may just be the saddest dog picture I have ever seen! Get well soon, Wylie, you are breaking our hearts! |
Poor Wylie :( |
AW poor little guy he looks very sad in that picture. I pray hes on the mend soon. Its so hard to see your little one like that huh |
Poor Wylie:( Both legs at once must be hard to figure out how to PP. My Benjamin had 1 done & did great & was up & runnin in 2 wks time. I hope Wylie is as good as Ben was in 2 wks. |
