| Initial Diagnosis of PLE, Protein-Losing Enteropathy I'm writing to see if I can get any information at all regarding Protein-Losing Enteropathy or PLE. My epileptic Yorkie is undergoing some final tests right now to confirm the initial diagnosis but we've been through the elimination process of ruling out liver and kidney issues that produce very low proteins including blood work, urinalysis and biopsy. My head is spinning right now, after two years of dealing with seizures, to get this new issue thrown at us. I'd appreciate any input from members who have had pups with this disease. Thanks, Sandy

| You poor poor soul......I am so sorry you are going through this with your baby.....my knowledge base on this particular issue is severly limited, so I can not be of any significant help....are you under the care of a specialist or a teaching university? You are in my prayers, I wish I knew everything about this....I can get into my library and see what I run across, but that is little help....anyone of us can read....I wish I could be of more help. |

| Your hopes came true !! I received a PM from ladyjane already and Cookie's outcome is so encouraging. I went to bed last night in tears because everything I read kept saying "poor outcome" and "no cure." After everything Spanky has been through since being rescued from a horrid mill and all the work we've done trying to get his seizures stabilized over the past two years, this news was too much to take in. Since getting the news just a short few weeks ago, Spanky has undergone a lot of testing and biopsy. Because of his seizure history, of course we had to rule out liver and kidney causation first. When all of that testing came back okay, I was relieved ,,, for a nanno second. The other shoe dropped fast when the diagnosis of PLE came in. Spanky had a very bad reaction and recovery to his liver biopsy so it's been decided for now not to biopsy his intestines. GI specific enzyme tests are with the lab now since it's the only non invasive way to get some kind of information and treatment plan. Hopefully I will have some more information by the middle of next week. I'll keep everyone updated. Sandy
