| Baby in heat and bleeding for 4 weeks Let me start by saying I did have an appointment to get Zoe spayed and she went in heat the week before her appt. so yes I am going to get her spayed but her vet recommended I wait due to higher risk of bleeding during surgery while in heat. So now it's been 4 weeks since she started bleeding and she is still bleeding. I called the vet and she recommends that we go ahead and spay, but now I'm uptight about the higher risk. So can I hear from some of the rest of you that have gone through heats before. Is 4 weeks of bleeding way too long. What is the risk of waiting until she gets all the way through heat? She is eating and acting normal. Maybe a little more tired than normal, but not excessively. Help I want to do whatever is best for my baby without putting her at unnecessary risk. |

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | depends on the bleeding , does the bleeding have an odor that would worry you, is it a lot, I would have her check by the vet , a dog is in heat for a full 25 days, starting with the redish discharge changing to the straw color one and finally just the brownish spotting until is goes away.. so if you are concern a visit to the vet is in order. hugs, |

| I have always been told a heat lasts 21 days so a trip to the vet may be needed

| No foul smell, nothing seems odd, but I'm still taking her in just for peace of mind. |

| My Belle was in heat for 6 weeks. She was spotting on and off the whole time. My vet diagnosed it as a persistent follicle on one of her ovaries. Since I planned to spay her and had no intention to ever breed her, he spayed her the same afternoon I brought her in for her exam. She had a rough few days after surgery, but recovered just fine. Hope your little girl has an easy surgery, too. You'll both be much happier when it's over!
