So scared my Baby is sick!!! Please my 5 year old Yorkie is sick! all of a sudden she just stopped eating and drinking. My mother in law said she noticed her rub her butt on the carpet and then she threw up a little.. it has been 8 days now I have taken her to the doctor 3 times and she is on her way again. they have hydrated her with IV, I have been giving her pills for upset stomach and antibiotics. Her blood work showed some elivation of white blood cells but the vet said it was not too excessive. They took an Xray and the vet thought she looked constipated so they gave her an enima!!! my poor baby was bleeding and having running bowel movements since Friday and still not eating or drinking... have tried everything. She is my baby girl !!! the sweetest little soul ever and I just feel so helpless.. please if anyone has advice or information or similar experience that might help!!!

An intestinal parasite can make this happen. Their are many different types of parasites, therefore many different medications. The antibiotics probably should have stopped the bleeding though. Did the vet take a stool analysis? Make sure she is getting nutri-cal and water even if you have to use a syringe to do it. Please keep us up-dated. My prayers go out to you and your baby.

Welcome!! As for your baby, I would have her off to ANOTHER vet for a second opinion. Sometimes, it is hard to take a fresh look at something when the vet sees the patient regularly. Same as with human docs. Parasites, worms, bacteria, virus, stress situations, food changes, foreign objects, toxins are but a few of the things that cause these symptoms. IF the gut has a problem, it sends a message to the stomach to not send food down there. So, vomiting then loss of appetite occurs..The stress can be sensed from you so try to remain as calm as possible. DO NOT allow a really uptight person to handle your baby. Make sure everyone who has anything to do with her WASH,WASH,WASH those hands. Do not change a whole bunch of things-either adding or substracting things. Does she have a fever? If so, when? Start a journal of activities and any occurences out of the ordinary. I know this sounds like a lot, but really, most of these things are already in place. Keep us informed as to her progress.. Best of luck with her..

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | You got great advise - I just want to say I hope she's going to be ok - Hang in there and I would try the 2nd opinion myself if you've been 3 times to one vet and she's still sick - GOOD LUCK !!! Praying for your baby - I'd be so worried too but sometimes it can be something simple and lets hope it is in your case |

Hello and welcome to YT. Im so sorry your baby is sick. I would try another vet. ASAP ........I would also cook her up some white rice with a little boiled chicken in it to see if maybe she would eat a little of that. Make sure to give her water and also a bowl of unflavored pedialyte to drink. Its a quick replacement fluid for enfants but works well on pets. Can be found at any store where they sale baby food. Quickly replaces fluid and electrolytes lost during diarrhea and vomiting to help prevent dehydration. Use Pedialyte at the first signs of diarrhea

Savanah is still sick 8 weeks now!! I have received so many responses.. thank you for the good wishes and prayers.. the latest is that we have been to 6 different vets, including a neurologist and internist.. and still nothing.. it is a waiting game now and I just focus on keeping her eating enough calories and hydrating her. Please keep the prayers coming that she will get better or something will surface that we can finally treat her and get her better.

Thank you so much for your input! She has been tested for just about everything the only symptom that has been consistant is no appetite, she keeps licking around her butt area at the back of her thighs and she has an elevated white blood cell count.. it is amazing that after 8 weeks and even seeing specialists.. nobody has a clue.. Thanks again, and I am always open to any suggestions..
