| Callie update I wanted to update on Callie. She seemed to be doing better Friday so we waited until Monday to take her to the vet. They did x-rays and her chest was clear but it looked like her her trachea got smaller as it go closer to her head. So she said her diagnoses was collapsing trachea and that is just aggravated right now so she gave us some steroids to try for about a week and it will be a quick on and then a wean off. She says keep her cool and non stresses and well as get a pound off of her. I knew it was suspected she had a mild case of CT but never really thought it was gonna be a problem. I think some how I thought that what is was because she kinda honked a little Sunday night so I tried to prepare my grandma for that and explain it to her but it still seems to upset her. Honestly I think we all were a bit upset because I know it can get worse as she gets older. The vet said her heart sounded great and looked fine in the x-rays but she said they have a radiologist who always comes in one day a week and one of the things is he looks at is ALL x-rays they have taken that have the heart in them and if for some reason he sees something she will let us know on Thursday when she calls to check on Callie. On another note when we got home she was very happy and finally played with me some and that made me feel better. My vet gave us some info on CT but anyone experiences good and bad and any info they can share about CT is greatly appreciated.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Sorry to hear about Callie, but hopefully she will do fine. I had a male years ago that was diagnosed with CT and and enlarged heart at 5 and did fine. He wasn't on any medicines. He lived to be almost 13 and died of kidney failure. I also had Gracie who had a severely CT diagnosed at 5. She was on medicine for 1 1/2 years but their was too much strain on her other organs and she sadly passed at 6 1/2. But hers was severely collapsed in her thoracic area and surgery wasn't an option. It sounds like Callie's is mild like Zorro's and will hopefully live a full life. It is important to keep their weight down. Gracie would get bad episodes brought on by her fear of thunder so stress does play in to it. I will keep her in my prayers.

| I'm sorry to hear this about Callie and hope you can learn how and be able to manage her conservatively all of her life. I remember back when I had Jilly so many dogs with CT were seemingly automatically taken to surgery and not a lot of happy stories in all of those cases. I'm sure you will be one of those owners who reads and does exhaustive research and asks lots of questions of everybody you can over the next months and years and Callie will greatly benefit from all your savvy on CT. It seems as if there is so much to learn and keep up with but if anybody does take it all in, no doubt it will be you. Keep us updated on what you find out. I'll be praying for little Callie. Here's a hug for her and for you. {{hugs!}}

| Sorry to hear of the diagnosis. Was hoping it was just nothing at all.... but I'm glad you took her in, and got some information. I am sure Callie will be fine, because she pretty much has the best mommy in the world. But I'm sending good vibes your way!

| Thanks everyone. I think it has to be a pretty mild case because last night she was finally acting like she wanted to play and we played forever before bed and she ran around and there was no cough or honking and that made me feel a bit better. I just wonder if using the collar for a few weeks when she was a puppy and didn't know better caused it. I feel like it might be my fault.

| I'm sorry about Callie's diagnosis. I'm sure that upset you terribly. Do lots of research and learn everything you can about it. Perhaps hers will never be any worse.

| Vet called to check on Callie today my Grandma is the one who spoke to her because me and Callie were napping Radiologist that came in and looks at all there x-rays said that there is a slight chance it could have been a shadow and not CT but because she had done the honking Vet still feels pretty sure it was CT and radiologist said heart looks good. Vet also said to my Grandma how good a dog mommy I am and if Callie seems lethargic or anything to bring her back and we will check her thyroid which they did last year and it was not what it was supposed to be but further testing showed it was ok. I hope this doesn't sound dumb but is it possible for her thyroid to be swollen and pushing on her trachea causing the coughing? Callie is acting better and playing which makes me so happy. I may decide to have her thyroid tested again at her yearly check up next month not sure gonna try and do some more reading about the thyroid and if anyone has any links or info about the thyroid I would be very thankful for that.

| After you have the thyroid checked, you may want to have another x-ray done in a few months and have it viewed again by the radiologist. You could get a different opinion.
