| Pulmonic Stenosis 16 week old puppy Hello All, I am new to YorkieTalk. Recently I found out my 16 week old puppy has a heart condition Pulmonic Stenosis. I am wondering if anyone has experienced this with their puppy. I am still working with my vet to determine how bad it is and what our options are but wanted to see if anyone has gone through this as well. Toby seems to be fine, the last two days he has been acting tired, but it has also been 90 degrees outside as well. Basically I don't want to assume the worst. Any advise or thoughts help. |

| This is genetic and your breeder should be notified immediately...she needs to flag the breeding pair...they may be super, bred to different mates, but together, they dont do well....or it possibly could be just a fluke, with this one mess up from this one breeding...in any event, the breeder must be made aware of the situation. Along that same thought, your breeder should show interest and concern in this baby. She should be right up in there with you, getting test results and if it was me, I would be PAYING for the diagnostic testing required to properly diagnose this condition, and I would be refunding at least half the price of the puppy, if you want to keep the baby. She should offer you the opportunity to return the baby for another puppy, but most people dont ever want to do that...so I believe the breeder has a responsibility to help the new owner face this issue. In all fairness, you cant expect the breeder to refund the cost of the puppy as well as foot all the medical bills for the life of the baby, but it is reasonable to have half the price of the baby refunded and all initial diagnostic testing paid for. I would be seeing a cardiologist specialist...if you do not have one recommended to you, go to a vet school. They will have the equipment as well as the specialist needed to give you options for the best outcomes in your baby's case. Please keep us updated.... |

| Thank you! The breeder gave me a 72 hour window to have him checked out for a full refund.....unfortunately the first visit to the vet they did not hear the murmur (or decided not to say anything). She is no longer breeding the dogs and has actually sold them to seperate people, she didn't really care to hear back from me. Like I said I am still working with my vet to determine what to do next, just would like to hear from someone that has had the same issue. I tend to be over protective and worried, so after reading a ton of articles about the condition I can't tell if I am making up symtoms that he is showing or if he is just run out from all the hot weather we have been having. Seems that some days he is a ball of energy running around with my Springer Spaniel and just the last two days he is stuck in my arms not wanting me to put him down. |

| If it were me, I would be seeking out a board certified cardiologist for help. Do a search on YT for more information on this disease.

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | I would agree that this dog should be seen by a cardiologist. 01 Pulmonic Stenosis - VeterinaryPartner.com - a VIN company! Link to an article which describes this condition. I do hope your puppy has a mild form of this genetic defect.

| Pulmonic stenosis is serious. It is a shame the breeder did not seem to care. We had a puppy with it who died very young...his name was Cowboy. This is his story....we at first thought he had PDA: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sic...rgery-pda.html There is a procedure that can be done with some of them. Unfortunately Cowboy was too sick and too tiny at the time for it to be done. I highly recommend that you see a board certified cardiologist. Here is a link that you may find helpful: http://www.vet.upenn.edu/Portals/0/m...20stenosis.pdf Best wishes to you and your pup.

| Update on Toby, spoke with the cardiac specialist and he is too small for surgery also with the severity they don't want to risk putting him under just yet.....Some good news is he has been much more active and not getting as tired as he was a week ago At the vet visit today they decided that we can put him on some blood presure medicine to help with his rapid heart rate and HOPEFULLY slow the progression of the disease. |
