| Happy is diagnosed with MVD Few of you might remember our previous post regarding our furbaby Happy. Long story short, Happy was diagnosed with mild MVD. The specialist doctor who did ultrasound suggested to keep Happy on a low protein diet and told that liver biopsy was not needed at this stage. We had got him a new food on Monday but we returned it and got RC Hepatic. He is doing good on RC Hepatic. But it starts to hurt seeing that he is not leading a normal life and we have to refrain him from eating his favorite treats. I might sound naive, but I have read that there is no treatment for MVD and we have to keep him on strict diet. I believe some might have their babies with MVD, can you please guide us what treats can we feed him. He was on a training schedule and is not potty trained. I am not sure how to train him without any treats. Also, I have read about coconut oil working wonders for yorkies? Can I give Happy a table spoon of coconut oil? Will this help? |

| I am so sorry to read about the diagnosis but hopefully with excellent treatment Happy can live a pretty good life for as long as possible. I will sure add Happy and you to my prayer list and hope that he can be happy & comfortable & able to enjoy his life.

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | Lots of different treats you can give. But first pass this list by your vet. Cheerios Green Beans Sweet Potatoes (mine go nuts over sweet potatoes Yellow Beans Strawberries, Blueberries, Raspberries maybe 4 to 6 a day. Blueberries are particularly good Carrots Celery Baked Potatoe skins. Put a wee bit of parsley, or dill on the taters when you bake them, and save skin for the pups. They Love baked potate skins. Mango and Pineapple. Pineapple very good for digestive upsets Watermelon they love it. I do feed it without the rind Bananas Apples - take skin off and No SEEDS You can dry many of the fruits n veggies too if you like. **almost any vege is good in moderation You can also ask your vet about liver detoxifying remedies; such as SamE, milk thistle, cranberries et al. No grapes, raisins, or currants. No onions. Garlic just a breath of it.

Zachary's Mom Donating Member | I am so sorry to hear this news. The diagnosis is NOT a death warrant however. There are many treatments for a lot of these diseases that can extend our babies lives indefinitely. You both will be in my prayers. Louise |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I am sorry to hear about Happy. Cali was diagnosed at 8 months after a liver biopsy she is now 7 years old and doing fine. She is the most active of my 3 girls and is the oldest of the girls. I have kept her on a low protein diet and limit treats to low protein and she has done fine. She has her blood tests every year and the vet has always been very pleased with her results. Whenever giving her medicine or putting her under for dental, my vet follows a liver compromised protocol just to be safe. Try not to worry they can live very nicely on low protein snacks and food.

| I agree with all the above posts... for the coconut oil, I'd start him out on 1/4 tsp 2Xdaily and gradually increase it to a teaspoon twice a day. If he weighs over 12 pounds, you could give a bit more. Tink likes cottage cheese (2% milkfat), yogurt, egg whites, and she loves carrots. Oh and noodles.

| Thank you for all the suggestions. We would try cheerios. We have started giving him coconut oil half teaspoon now. Hope it works well. We are hoping that Happy recovers faster. We are living in Vancouver BC area, does anyone know where can I get milk thistle or Sam-E? |
