| Blood on rectum Sorry this is long. This morning I discovered blood on Deuce's rectum. Found the poop but it did not have blood on it. It was soft but did have some jelly-like substance in it. I also found scoot marks of blood on a couple of the rugs in the house. Taking him to the vet at noon. Background: May 16 - Deuce had a bout of diarrhea. Got up at night. I took him to the vet the next day. I brought in some poop for test. She did an exam, put him on chicken and rice and prescribed him metronidazole 50 mg 1/2 tab twice a day for 7 days. In two days he was fine so I continued the meds and began to put him back on his dry food by mixing it into the chick/rice. All seemed normal. June 12 - Gave him his first half of Heartguard Plus. A few hours later he had diarrhea and then a miserable night with squirting Diarrhea. We went back to the Vet, she checked him out and we concluded that the culprit might have been the Heartguard Plus so we did another round of Metronidazole, chick and rice and within two days he was doing fine. I did put some of his dog chow in the food since he was spitting out the rice and seemed to be hungry. The past week his stools had first a white slime on part of it then there was a jelly like substance. Some stools were soft some were a bit hard. I was feeding him his dry food with some chicken and he was eating twice a day. Question: Wondering if it is his dry food (Innova - been on that for two years) or was it the Heartworm Meds or am I feeding him too much? Since he spits out the rice what do I feed him?

| Sounds like my Tibbe a bit. His stools for the last month or so have had the mucus on them and that's probably what the slime stuff is on your baby's stool. Not sure but I think the white is from WBC's accumulated around the irritated site that pass through? The blood is likely from a spot or two in his lower G-I so irritated it just broke the capillaries' surface. It's probably food-related but could be anything from a bug to abscess to colitis, etc., as you vet no doubt said & the vet will probably put him on food easier to digest & maybe some more meds to help the irritation. I changed Tibbe to Heartguard Plus this month but his problems started in May. Hope you can get some answers.

| Update after vet visit All systems normal. Weight the same. No fever. Nothing swollen or visuallly abnormal. They are looking at his poop and will call me. We discussed a variety of courses of action from this point and decided to go conservative. He is back on a course of Metronidaxole 1/2 tab for 7 days. We are also going to JUST feed Hills Prescription i/d for Gastrointestinal health and add ForteFlora to it. We'll keep him on the Hills for a month to be at normal. The package suggests to feed him a 1/4 of the can per day based on weight. I usually feed him 2 x's per day so I'll just split that and the ForteFlora. If by Monday we're not making progress we'll go back to do bloodwork.

| Glad nothing terribly serious seems to be going on. Tibbe is on almost the same treatment regimen without the Metronidaxole, instead on Pepcid AC. He hasn't had any bleeding or even diarrhea - just the mucous-y stools & spit up some water & bile. Here is hoping & praying this will "do" it for your little one. With Tibbe it has been a string of good days followed by a couple of bad ones. Vet said this could take time. Is that what yours said?

| Deuce Update - Making Progress Looks like the Metronidazole, Hill's ID Digestive wet food, and Forteflora is working. Formed poo this morning and seems to be up to his normal self. The vet told me to feed him a quarter can per day (that's about 3.3 oz. - He weighs about 5 lbs) so I split that into AM and PM. Just wondering if anyone else fed this to their baby. Is that enough??? He eats it all each time and seems to look for more.

| One more thing By the way. The blood I saw on his little behind was from him scooting his butt on the rug. Ouch!!!!!!! He doesn't seem to be doing that anymore.

| I'm so glad to read this and see precious Deuce is doing much better and feeling back to his ole' self again. Zhoie eats morning and evening too, she's close to 5 lbs and truthfully it doesn't seem like much food at all. She too licks the bowl clean and will look around, but her weight is steady and she's not overweight...so we must be doing something right The surgeon stressed just how important it is to make sure these little ones don't get over weight, hard on their organs, spine and knees. She told me to weigh her and keep track, if she gains-decrease her intake, should she lose-increase. That's what I've been doing and she is maintaining a steady weight. Perhaps you could try that.

| Glad he's doing better! Tibbe eats about 3 T. soaked in warm water till plump twice a day plus some of the dry kibble for treats. If he gets hungry, he asks for more & I gave him another 1 - 2 T of it but he's rarely asked for more.
