Does Ellie's just come & go like Tibbe's? He had 5 really good days and was back to himself & then today. I wonder what in the world he thinks has happened to him. I am taking up all the rawhide & it's going in the trash now. |
Think he should have a BAT? |
Aw! Poor Tibbe... praying for you, little one. |

I wouldn't say it is the same problem. ...just that it should get better with the right treatment. BAT..I'd talk to the vet. I'm a fan of doing them on all yorkies which is not considered necessary. So my thinking is that it could not hurt. But intestinal issues without underlying liver issues are very common. |
Sending prayers for Tibbe that this will be figured out soon. |
Though I didn't, at least Tibbe slept pretty well last night. He wasn't hurting I guess since he didn't jump suddenly out of sleep & change positions all night as he had some nights. No, he slept right through - at least until 3:30 a.m. when I checked out. When I woke, he was right where he was at 3:30 a.m. So that's good. I guess his Cerenia helped him sleep. |
I'm so sorry Tibbe isn't feeling well. I'm glad he slept well last night. I hope he gets better soon. Bless his heart. I will keep him in my prayers. |
I was just checking in to see how Tibbe is doing. Poor little guy sounds like he's been through so much lately. :( Praying for him and hoping you'll have the answers to help him get well soon. :;) |
I've been following this thread about Tibbe...it can be so frustrating when they are sick and you can't figure it out. My Schnauzer has recently had some gastro issues, and my Holistic vet was thinking that it might be an environmental toxin that has set her off. Is that a possibility? I mean, I wonder if someone in your neighbourhood is spraying for weeds, or he's been in a different location while out than usual and managed to get something on/in him. If its at all possible it might be worth it to wipe is feet/beard when he comes in if you don't already do that. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that you can figure it all out, and both of you will feel better soon. |
I'm sorry to read that Tibbe hasn't been feeling well again. I hope he is diagnosed or gets well very soon. {{{{hugs}}}} |
I have no way of knowing if someone has been spraying on the block but on either side, probably not as there are little children on one side & a doglover on the other. The vet thinks he was having some GI problems that might have been developing when he had to go on the Prednisolone & then he seemed to really go south after that day he ate a while bowl of food, drank tons of water one morning & blew up like a watermelon. I was sleeping in that morning & had no idea he was eating/drinking that much from the Pred! Since that day, he's not been right for a whole week yet. He's gone 5 days but these last 2, he's having mucus-y stools & not eating except if strongly encouraged or handfed. He has never truly vomited up food or had diarrhea. He just spits up foam/bile or has a partly normal stool, partly mucus-covered. There was a lot of mucus this morning - about a tablespoon at one end. But, when I got home from the eye doctor, he ate a whole meal of Hill's on his own & is acting a lot happier. We have a recheck vet appt. already scheduled for tomorrow so we'll see what the vet says about these 2 bad days after 5 good ones. I hope he doesn't have some chronic form of IBD and have to live his life like this! |
I hope he'll finally get over this rough spot and be just fine again very soon. I'll check tomorrow to see what the dr says. |
Good luck at the vet's tomorrow! |
Tibbe was scheduled for a recheck today & he had a mucous-y stool again today. Took it in, normal except for the mucus. The vet said she didn't think the rawhide chews were a problem as he doesn't chew/swallow them but they are all gone as a precaution anyway. She thinks that the 6 pieces of Iams ProActive kibble I gave him as training treats Sunday did it. (I knew I shouldn't but he was so proud of doing his training so so well & I was so sure he was finally well.) That was the day I thought he was back - he was feeling so good & so vigorously playing. Said he could have chronic IBD but thinks this is an irritation that keeps getting tweaked by one thing or another & this episode could be from the Iams. But, said it could be pure coincidence & those 6 tiny pieces of Iams really didn't do it. Says as he eats well, albeit usually with coaxing and soaked, hasn't lost weight, has no frank diarrhea, she just doesn't think there is anything serious going on other than this G-I thing that is going to take some time to settle down. Said keep doing all the same things she told me. I've been so hesitant to bathe him or clean his ears since he's been sick that I wanted her too look at his left ear, which smelled some & looked a little red today. She agreed something going on so cleaned his ears as only the vet can do(not me), pulled hairs, too, & did a swab micro exam, found a fungal infection! He's now on cleaning ears twice daily for 3 weeks followed 30 mins. later by a "new" ear medicine. I feel so so so bad. He hasn't been scratching his ears or shaking his head - well, he did scratch that ear for about 5 mins. Monday but none since! And because I was a wus & didn't want to disturb him any more than his sick tummy was doing to him & didn't keep up routine ear cleaning throughout this, he's got a low-grade ear infection on top of his tummy troubles. He's still not scratching it or shaking his head so it had just blossomed yesterday or today I guess as Monday after his scratching session, there was no smell or redness. I think we're both tired of going to the vet seemingly every other day & he's sooooooooooo tired of me watching him all the time, I'll bet, and I know he's tired of a bad tummy so we've made a pact that he'll get well & I'll quit hovering & follow the vet's order to the very letter, no matter how hard he begs for his old treats. They have been tossed, too. Boy, I hope we can keep that pact. I am ready for my heretofore-healthy little fireball to get well & stay that way! |
Tibbe's last two days have been great! Full of vim & vigor, feisty & playing like a puppy. Did smell some gas from him earlier tonight but probably doesn't mean anything. Eating his Hill's GI I/D kibble soaked in warm water with relish & even taking the individual pieces of kibble dry as treats - which he just would not do until the last 2 days. He's sleeping like a baby right now, played out. So happy for him. I honestly don't know what I would have done when really low & really scared if the many posts kept me from losing hope or worrying myself silly. Am beginning to accept that even if it is a chronic-type IBD, we will deal with it. But for now, we're having good days. |
