Remy's heading for the vet later ... and I'm just about too worried to sleep! Poor thing has been vomiting since Tuesday, and has lost his usual energy. I took him to the vet on Wednesday, and they gave some shots and told me to come back Saturday if he wasn't better. He won't even touch a bit of boiled chicken now, and spent nearly the whole day sleeping. He is at least still taking water. Anyway, he seems a bit worse instead of better, so we aren't waiting another day. My mother's taking him back in the morning (well, later this morning, I guess) as I have to work. Hopefully they can figure out what's wrong with him; I just hate seeing him all sick and miserable.

| Hopefully he will be alright. I would probably have taken him to the er.....three days is a long time for these little ones to be sick, especially vomitting. Keep us posted.

Well, we've got a diagnosis- he's got parvo. (He had his 3 rounds of puppy vaccinations for this stuff!) The vet gave him fluid and antibiotic, and something for nausea. It seems to have helped; he's stopped vomiting and he's eating a bit now, and his energy is a little better. He's got to see the vet every day until he's recovered, so back again tomorrow. Hopefully we'll have him back to shredding my magazines and stealing my socks soon; it's the little things you miss.

I see you are in Houston....parvo is RAMPANT in Houston. He has had 3 of his puppy vaccines for parvo, and he has still contracted the disease. Hopefully, with at least some immunity started, he will not suffer a full blown case and he will survive. Parvo is a breeders worst nughtmare....my home is on lockdown and my newborns are isolated until they are at least 8 weeks old....hopefully, buyers will understand what the problem is, and if not, then they probably can not appreciate how devastating this disease is and what it can do to a breeding program, and I am not convinced they would have the concern for their own puppy if it should contract the disease. I would much rather loose a sale than subject my babies to this totally devastating, highly contageous killer disease, and loose my entire program. Fortunately, I have only had 2 people that voiced a concern about not being able to come "tour my facility" and went else where....that is fine, we both have our own concerns from different sides of the issue, and my program and babies are worth considerably more than the cost of two puppies! In spite of all the precautions I take, dressing potential buyers up in hazmat gear from head to foot, hand sanitizers (which are NOT effective against parvo virus), walking thru trays of towels or rugs soaked in Virkon.....it is STILL too much a risk to take. I am TERRIFIED of this contagion....been there, done that, have the scars to prove it....stupid is making the same mistake twice! Thank you for allowing me to vent....I pray your baby gets well!

How is Parvo transmitted? Are most adult, vaccinated dogs safe? Parvo is one of the shots they need every year? I know some people talk about skipping certain shots sometimes (that they don't need them each year). sounds like Parvo is not one to skip.

It transmits through infected fecal matter (gross!), but it only takes a tiny bit; you could track some in on a shoe and be totally unaware. The vaccines are supposed to build immunity to the virus, so a vaccinated dog should be pretty safe (but my pup was vaccinated). I've read that some vets give low-risk dogs shots every 3 years, but in a parvo-laden area like here, it's something to keep on top of. So Remy saw the vet again today, and he was doing so much better that they didn't even give him anything. The vet said it's pretty much unheard of for a dog to be recovering so fast, but my baby's a trooper and he had lots of prayers going up for him. He's eating pretty well (even tried to get a nip of my dinner!), and he's back to being my little shadow. lol, guess it's back to our potty training adventures now...
