| Whats good for constipation? My poor Dexter, ever since my bro & his dog came to visit, he's a mess! He is terrified of her and she's a nice dog too. She is a large yellow lab so she's scary to him and he's never been good with other dogs anyways. Well poor little guy, he has been in his glory with all the 'new' treats, rawhides, foods etc... that he steals from her. Until it caught up with him. Poor baby is pretty constipated. He was trying to go and then booty scooted on the grass when it wouldn't come all the way out, that matted it into his hair. I had to bathe him 2 days in a row now. He is all out of sorts. poor thing! Is there anything that I can do for him to help with the constipation? Any foods or drinks? Can dogs have pepto? I don't see the need to rush him to the vet, he's fine in that, he IS pooping, it's just hard and hes having a hard time getting it out and I have to help him (gross!) hes active, eating, drinking water, playing, everything... hes just having a hard time.

| I would try natural methods before resorting to meds, and use those only on advice from your vet, especially regarding dosage. Max had severe gas and constipation and I fed him all natural canned pumpkin (not the filling as noted above). Gave him warm belly washes. You can submerge your pup to about the front legs in warm water. Walking helped too. I am careful with using high-fiber veggies to combat constipation. The veggies can make matters worse with gas in Max. Every dog is different though. Hope your baby feels better soon.

| Along with the pumpkin, you can try some nice long walks. Walking sometimes helps move things along and it might ease some of his stress too. |

| I have always found the apple to work better then the pumpkin as it has pectin & works both ways. Have you checked the anals ? as that can make them constipated as they will try to hold it in because it hurts to go & the longer it stays in the body , the body can absorb the moisture out of the stool making them constipated. |

| Hot Rod doesn't much like pumpkin but loves sweet potatos. This does the trick for him everytime. Good luck.

| Plain pumpkin works like a charm whether the dog has diarrhea or constipation. I keep it on hand at all times. It doesnt take much daily...a teaspoon one to two times daily. |

| Thanks all! I got home from work and gave him a bath, when he was all dry and warm, we went outside and still nothing. I actually just took away all food and only left him water. He drank a bit during the evening and by the next morning when I let him out, he was able to go no problems. We've been super careful at keeping him away from my bros dogs food and treats and Dexter has not had a problem since thursday! Thank goodness!
