I would try natural methods before resorting to meds, and use those only on advice from your vet, especially regarding dosage.

Max had severe gas and constipation and I fed him all natural canned pumpkin (not the filling as noted above). Gave him warm belly washes. You can submerge your pup to about the front legs in warm water. Walking helped too.

I am careful with using high-fiber veggies to combat constipation. The veggies can make matters worse with gas in Max. Every dog is different though.
