| Please Help, My Yorkie Is In A State! Hey everyone, For the last month or so my poor little yorkie has started scratching and itching most of the day, his skin has gone very pink so he has been to the Vet who took skin and blood samples. The results came back and they do not know what is causing the issue, The vet has recommended feeding him hypoallergenic food which we will be collecting tomorrow, the thing is I am not that confident the food is going to solve the issue. We (My partner and I) have thought of everything that could of caused the issue, we have not changed our washing powder, softner, we hoover the house daily and never feed the dog any human food, he only eats Royal Canin Yorkshire Terrier (adult small) We have allways had a lot of time to play with the dog but we had a child 3 months ago, we still give him plenty of play time but am wondering if this has anything to do with his problem? The vet bill for all the tests is going to cost between £600 - £800 and the issue is still not sorted. Therefore I have opened this thread to ask for help because I do not know what to try next. |

| Have they tried prednisone or some Benadryl to see if it clears it up - perhaps a seasonal allergy?

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | I'm no expert, but I would suspect the food. I did a quick search on Dog Food Analysis website, and the food you're feeding appears to be a non-recommended brand. It certainly couldn't hurt to follow the vet's advice and put her on a different diet. Good luck! Dog Food Reviews - Royal Canin Mini Yorkshire 28 - Powered by ReviewPost

| Yes.... See if its a food allergy first. They put so many things in food that can cause a reaction. Try a one novel protein and one carbohydrate food. |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | My Cali had to go on a medicine Atopica as a last resort for her allergies. We did all the testing and food elimination diets and nothing worked until we put her on the Atopica. I hope you can clear it up. It is hard to see them so miserable with the scratching.

YT 3000 Club Member | Chester has very sensitive skin so I use no air freshners, no sprays, no plug ins, I use fragnance free soap and no dryer sheets, any of that they can be sensitive to. I would try some temaril p prednisone and anti histamine is what chester has gotten before. The prednisone will make them urinate more and if that helps it is not the food. The antihistamine will not change a food allergy |

What shampoos/conditioners are you using on him? I really like Virbrac Epi -Soothe. This really has helped with Taycie's dry skin. It is very mild and gentle and not heavily perfumed. This alone helped Taycie tremendously. As much as I loved the super yummy smells it really aggravated her super sensitive skin. Epi-Soothe Shampoo For Cats, Dogs & Horses: Pet Shampoo - 1800PetMeds

| RC food is full of corn and a lot of Yorkies don't seem to tolerate corn well. Even if they have been okay on that food for a while, allergies can develop suddenly. Definitely try the new food, I bet it'll help! Good luck and I hope your baby feels less itchy very soon He sure is cute!
