Thanks for the diet tips. It is scary when they don't eat especially when they are small. Gigi is hanging in there at 8 lbs but I definitely don't want her to lose weight from not eating.

I'm glad I made the decision to have the surgery. It was an extremely difficult one because my medical internist had valid concerns about going through with the surgery due to Gigi's age. Most of her patients diagnosed with liver shunts at Gigi's age are medically managed. I felt UT offered Gigi the best chance for diagnosis, treatment, survival.

The Liver Shunt Group has been truly invaluable

I'm lucky to have found them through this site.

I am so happy for Gigi and you that the surgery went well! She is a beautiful girl and looks wonderful in the picture. Sending prayers for a speedy recovery. Gigi is very lucky to have such a great mom.

HI all,
Gigi and I made it back to VA. Since she hasn't been eating great the last couple of days, I decided to go to the grocery/vitamin store to get the ingredients to make the UT Homemade diet. I had everything except for the Balance IT ingredient. I ordered it prior to my leaving for TN in anticipation of having to use it. Someone stole my package from off my porch while I was away at UT

Balance It has agreed to send me another package though

Meanwhile, I've made the recipe with what I had. I gave Gigi a little to start....and wouldn't you know, she ATE it all. I'll make new batch of food to include the Balance It once it arrives. For now, this will have to work as she refuses to eat her RC kibble.

HI Perrella- thanks for asking about Gigi. She is continuing to recuperate at home. Her appetite is returning albeit slowly. I even got her to eat a few kibbles of RC Hepatic. Up until now, she refused to eat the kibble. I'm going to f/u with the UT nutritionist to see if I can get a custom diet that is low in protein and hypoallergenic. Right now Gigi's food allergies are in HIGH gear, i.e. continuously licking paws...they are beginning to turn red.

I'm hopeful I will find something that will meet her needs.

Sending prayers for Gigi continued improvement. She looks beautiful in the picture and it was great to see a picture of Dr Tobias who I have heard so many wonderful things about. Best wishes on finding the correct diet for her and I hope her allergies subside,

There are organizations that supposedly help, but I honestly have never seen anyone get it. The one I see recommended a lot is IMOM.
