1) Yes some lawn chemicals can be fatal....but I have no way of telling you how to check.....I heard one time of the lawn guys making a mistake with their chemical application.....it also ended in the death of a dog. You may can have a sample of your lawn tested....I would certainly call the company! 2) is anyone in your family....even your extended family taking a drug such as warfin (sp)....a blood thinner used usually for any heart condition....even one pill can be fatal to a Yorkie.....this actually happened to a friend of mine....a visiting relative dropped a pill on the floor and didn't realize it until the Yorkie became fatally ill like Cleo...the symptoms were the same. 3) she may have been posioned "accidently" by a neighbor. If you neighbor has treated for rats with rat posion (which is normally a blood thinner)....it is possible for the rat to enter your yard before it died......if Cleo ate or played with such a dead animal....she "could" become posioned too. Almost any University Vet School can do tissue cultures for foreign chemicals....or you can use a lab. But most Univ vet schools are accustomed to doing this type of testing. Ask your vet. I hope this helps some....I hope you find some answers. If it were me....I would certainly want to know why ?? It will not bring Cleo back....but could provide you with some peace of mind. God speed to you....and again I am so sorry you lost Cleo. I am so very sad.....I too have tears just thinking of Cleo and what you have experienced. d |

I Am So Sorry For Your Loss I am so terribly sorry for you and your family. I truly know how you feel because I lost my precious little girl 2 weeks ago due to a tragic car accident. Please know that I am praying for you and your family. Please know that your sweet little Cleo is safe at the Rainbow Bridge and waiting for you. Rainbow Bridge Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.... Author Unknown |
I am so sorry for your loss! I hope you will keep us updated on what you find out regarding the chemicals on your lawn!! You will be in our prayers! |
I'm so sorry for you. It's so sad. My husband rescued a tiny kitten who was about 6 weeks old from the streets of Chicago . She was bleedimg from her mouth, nose, ears, and bottom. He rushed her to a vet and the vet said it was rat poisoning and gave an antidote. We adopted her and gave her the medicine and she recovered beautifully. That was 12 years ago. Rat poisoning isn't so sudden as you described. My cousin had rabbits in a cage outside. Chem Lawn came and sprayed the lawn. She didn't realize it and let the rabbits out in the grass, they both died suddenly from being poisoned. It's horrible but something to be aware of. Again, my heartfelt prayers go out to you. |
I just wanted to send you a BIG HUG... I can't image how you feel. I do have such anxiety though just thinking about 'if anything ever happened to Roxy or TJ'. I hope you can find some answers and maybe you'll be able to save others. Just remember that your baby will always be by your side, always loving you! |
Im so sorry for your loss. My deepest sympathies. RIP Little Cleo. My heart hurts reading what happened to your little one. We are here for you. |

So sorry for your loss. I never heard of that happening..... hopefully you will find out what happened to her. :( |
I'm so sorry for your loss. But for some reason the lawn treatment,,is sticking in my mind,,, I so worry about that in the summer, when everyone does theres.. |
I can't remember who mentione it, but UTK in Knoxville is one of, if not the best, vet hospital in the nation. They have wonderful labs and outstanding technicians and if something were ever to happen to my babies I wouldn't trust anyone but them. You might have your vet send some samples off to them, or have your vet call them to at last talk over the phone and see where to go from there. Look into your lawn care provider. One company (not sure which) has been known to say their product is 100% safe for pets, but one family with three greyhounds had all three die within 3-4 days of having their lawn taken care of. And more recently the security guard at my bank had his corgi on the brink of death from the same compant, though they insisted it wasn't their product, even though the vet had pure proof it was. So....My condolences to you and Bouncer and I send big hugs and kisses and prayers for little Cleo. *HUGS* |
Fertilizer I do know of several who lost dogs to poison by fertilizer on the yard. It is really so sad. the grandular stick to the balls or other toys the babies pick up. The grass they walk on then lick there feet. There little beards even pick some up and when they go to thee water bowl it drops in and they turn around and drink it up. So sorry for your loss. |
