| Lump under right eye We found a lump under Deuce's right eye on Sunday. I usually comb/brush him and clean his eyes daily so this is a new thing. The lump is about a 1/4 inch below his eye, kind of on his cheek. Its about the size or a pencil eraser right now and soft to the touch. We think maybe he stuck his head in a bush and got scratched with a thorn or perhaps it's a reaction to a bug bite or maybe a tick bite. I had foot surgery on Monday so hubby took him to the vet on Tuesday to find out what it was. The vet didn't have any other ideas about it but did squeeze it to drain it a bit and gave us a course of Clavamox (1/2 tablet 2 times a day and a Neo Poly Dexamethasone Opth Solution to administer two drops three times a day. Both meds are for a 7 day course. She also told hubby to put a warm compress on it 3 times a day to prevent the scab from forming so it will drain. It does not look too good and not smaller. It is not any larger though. He does not have any discomfort with this. Is it wise for me to continue to demonstrate patience? Should I be putting on a topical antibiotic? Any thoughts?

| Poor Deuce. Be patient and give the meds time to work. Max had some weird skin stuff on his underside recently and it took the full course of the antibiotic (10 days?) to clear up. I hope the bump is gone by next week. Of course, if it gets worse or doesn't go away, return to the vet. Keep us updated.

| Thanks for the response. You know how hard it is to see something wrong with your baby. It probably hurts me more than it hurts him!!!

| I understand completely and I am totally impatient and always want everything fixed right away when something is wrong with my babies.

| Could you keep us updated. My Gracie had a lump that would heal over, then break open again, under her eye.We did antibotics and x-rays. Teeth were fine. Tear ducts fine etc. It was a tiny hair like piece of wire, like a piece of screen thread, the Vet found by cutting open the lump. My sister's Poodle had a lump that looked identical. It too healed up on meds, then began seeping again, Finally her Vet found out it was a abscessed tooth below the gum. They pulled the tooth. My friends dog also got a lump under her eye, her Vet thought it was a spider bite and it healed with antibotics. So i am curious what your dog has.

| Will keep you updated The lump is still there but looking a bit smaller. When we do the warm compresses there is evidence of some blood on the compress. Not dripping but just the kind that would form a scab. Doesn't look like pus at all. Last night I took a look at his gums and it doesn't look like there is any tooth infections on that side of his face. Researching on the internet does indicate that that could be a tooth problem but I am more inclined to think he got stuck with something on his cheek. I will keep you informed so we can learn from each other.

| There was a member here whose Yorkie had an infected tooth that ulcerated to through the cheek, but the ulcer was more significant. I hope it isn't a tooth in Deuce's case, and I hope there isn't anything stuck in there causing the infection. Definitely keep us updated so that we know your little boy is doing well, and as a learning source for others. Best wishes to Deuce.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I had a male yorkies many years ago that had an abscess in his tooth and it abscessed and blew a hole under his eye. I had the tooth removed and antibiotics and he was fine. I would make sure your vet checked his tooth. Hope he feels better soon.

| Abcessed Tooth Question In researching about the possibility of a tooth problem I read that it is usually an occurence with an older dog. Deuce is only two and his teeth are pretty clean but I know it could still be a possibility. How old was your baby when the problem occurred?

| Deuce update + now ear infection I just had to give him a bath last night. He was just smelling like a dirty little boy. (Of course he liked it) But anyway, we did the bath an blow dry and I noticed he also has an ear infection in one ear. I have the ointment from one we had back in May it looks that same so thought I'd just start that now. Please feel free to comment "Smart or Not." For a little guy that I dote over every moment I can't believe he is having so many issues right now. Who knows what would happen if I treated him like a dog!!!! PS. Right now I'm on eight weeks of non weight bearing post left foot surgery. I have 7 more weeks to go. Uggghhhhh!!!!!

| Mary, I am so sorry to hear about Duece's health issues. Poor little fella. You may want to have the vet re-check him to be sure that he didn't miss anything. I hope you are recovering nicely from your foot surgery and aren't in too much pain. |

| Update on Lump The lump is getting smaller and does not look fluid filled. We have two more days on the oral antibiotics so I'm now feeling better about this. Using the ear meds so need to give that a few more days. We'll see where this is by Friday. Thanks again to all for holding my hand.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I think Zorro was around 5 years old. Glad Duece's swelling is going down.
