| My Chi Autumn had this. The vet said I got her there just in time. The blood thickens & can get to a point where it cannot be reversed. She got sick one night & I took her to the vet the next morning.

| My vet says they really don't know what brings it on. Said she may have another flair up but again she may never have another. She is 9 I rescued her 2 years ago. She got sick over night. The first sign was not eating.

| and Bear too! ♥ Donating Member | Friday morning (10/21) Ziggy didn't want to eat his food. He had a soft stool with mucus and a few drops of blood. I called the vet, and they told me to come in and pick up some anitbiotics and metronidazole. After we left the vet he started throwing up on my lapin the car. When we got home he shot out the dark bloody stool and continued throwing up. I took him in to the vet for an exam, and they gave him fliuds under the skin and a shot for the vomiting. he had no more vomiting or diarrhea after that. I hate not knowing what is causing this! I'm scared to death after losing Rusty. It would be easier to deal with if I just had some answers.

| feeding a low fat diet is very important in controlling issues like this. has your vet recommended any change in diet?

| and Bear too! ♥ Donating Member | Thanks. He's doing much better now. The vet hasn't said anything about his diet. I am feeding Holistic Select chicken and rice now. He was on Pedigree when this whole mess started so I switched. I'm just constantly worried since I lost Rusty so fast!

| Donating YT 30K Club Member | I'm glad he's doing better. Cali had her second bout of it not to long after her 1st bout too. Knock on wood she hasn't had a reoccurence in a couple of years. I keep them all on the same food and one type of treat and no chew bones other than nylabones. I hope he stays well.

| I had way too much experience with this .. bloody diarrhea and vomiting! After the diagnosis was food intolerance, I decided that a simple one protein and one carb food was the only thing that would be around our house. Wellness Simple Solutions.. 3 different formulas available. The other life saver, and one that many of you may not know about it a chewable//solid metronidazole formulated by an apothecary shop. It stays good for over a year. So at the first since of diarrhea , I would give it to my boy. The vet knows that the issues, and has no problems filling the script. Can be kept in the closet or frig, and no issues with it going bad. My vet did not know about it, and was thrilled to find out.. I had learned about the solid form from a good vet tech friend of mine. A great thing to keep in your medicine bag for the fur kids. I never let the soft stool get to the really bad state of bloody diarrhea.

| and Bear too! ♥ Donating Member | Thank you for this information. My vet did treat Ziggy and Leo with the metronidazole and a liquid antibiotic as well. It stopped the problems right away thank goodness. Ziggy spent one night at th er vet clinic when he had his first episode of this, probably more as a precautionary since we lost Rusty so fast. I am glad you told me about having the metronidazole on hand just in case it happens again. I am going to call my vet and see if I can pick some up. He told me before, that if it started again, I wouldn't need a visit. This last time with Ziggy, I picked up the meds, but still took him in a few hours later because Ziggy passed more blood and I was scared to death! I would definitely feel better having the meds on hand. Thanks again! Stephanie

| You are so welcome! My vet advised me that we needed to keep it on hand because of the history of stomach upsets. Catching a problem like this right away makes it allot easier to cure than waiting till when it goes to bloody diarrhea. Peace of mind having the solid type.. and I think most people do not know about this..let me know if you need some more info on it. I think most apothecary shops can make it for your vet.
