I only had Dixie 5 weeks and she was not real active but not sickly. I took her in to my vet because her urine was clear and had no odor. I didn't think it was anything but wanted to check it out. They did a urinalysis and blood work. Her Bun was off the vets chart so they couldn't even get a reading. That evening the vet called and said she was in kidney failure and there was nothing that could be done. I took her to a nephrologist and he thought he could help her. They determined it was congenital by an ultrasound. It showed her kidney's were very underdeveloped. They started her on medicines and she went down hill very quickly. I am hoping your Pixie's kidney failure can be treated and she lives a normal life. If I can do anything let me know.

Thank you. Pixie is not the wildest one in the bunch, but she runs around and plays with them. She is ready to sit with me when I sit down and will lay with me all day. I got he in December and right after Christmas she and Haley got sick with vomiting. I took them to the vet and they said she had upset tummy and decided it was because of too many treats. She had another episode in March of vomiting. I took her back to vet and they said another upset tummy. She has been fine since until Sunday. I am still waiting to hear from UT. The waiting is killing me!

So sorry you are going through this. I lost Julz to Kidney Failure, she was almost 15.
She was DX at 10yr.
Her BUN was never below 50 the day we were told of her DX. The last 2 months they were over the top.
Dehydration can cause the BUN to be elevated.
I'm sure they will put her on a specail diet, we were on K/D for the last 5 yr. GOOD LUCK TO YOU

The vet from UT just called and said that Pixie is a stage 3 chronic kidney disease. She said that Pixie BUN was 280 or something like that. It wasnt that high yesterday so it has went up. She did not tell me what the CRE was but she said it was three times what it should be. They are giving her agressive IV fluids and are running tests becasue she is losing calicum. This is not the results I was hoping for.

I am so sorry the news was not better. Did they do an ultrasound to see if it is congenital? Keeping Pixie in my prayers. If you have any questions let me know. I hope they can get her numbers down and get a treatment plan going for her.

They did say that the ultra sound showed underdeveloped kidneys. She said so much my head is spinning. They are wanting to find out why she is losing calicum and go from there. If they can get her stable they will go more into a treatment plan for her, but right now they are not very optimistic.
