Pixie is at UT with KIDNEY FAILURE I am shocked and heart broken. I dont know what to do. Sunday Pixie started acting like she did not feel well and did not eat all of her food. She has had two epsidoes of stomach upset, one in December and the other in March. I thought she was just having another upset tummy. She wasnt acting any better yesterday so we took her to the vet. They did blood work and said she was having Kidney Failure. She is just over a year old. They put her on IV fluids and wanted to keep her overnight there, but since she would be alone at night I requested her to be transferred to UT. Last night they repeated the tests at UT with the same results. This morning they called and said the plan for today was to do ultrasound or x ray of her kidneys to see if they can find a cause for this. Her test results from our vet was: NEU: 12.78 PLT: 555 BUN: 130 CREA: 3.9 PHOS: 16.1 CA: 6.6 CHOL: 484 Anyone who has any experience with this please help me! |
I am sorry. I do not have any experience at all. But I want you to know that Pixie and you are in my prayers. |
I am so sorry. I will keep Pixie in my prayers. My Dixie had congenital kidney failure at 7 months. The nephrologist I took her to said he had many yorkies in his practice that were living good lives with kidney failure with treatment. He said that a dog can function with 25% kidney function. Sadly Dixie only had 17 %. Dixie's Bun was 490. So hopefully Pixie's can be treated and she will pull through. My heart goes out to you I know how devastating that news is. Please keep us posted. |
Oh my :( I am so sorry. I can't imagine what you are going through. I will be praying and keep us updated |

I took a break for awhile while I was student teaching. My little bit of extra time I figured I better spend with my family. Now I have a looooot of catching up to do! lol I really hope you find out some good news today :( |
my heart really goes out to you. i don't have any experience with this so i do not have any advice to offer unfortunately. but i will keep your little pixie in my thoughts and prayers. she is in the best care at ut. you did the right thing transferring her there. saying prayers for the best possible outcome for your little one! sending hugs to you both! |
Oh no! Sending prayers for little Pixie. Sorry I can't be of more help. Hugs, |
So sorry you are going through this. I lost Julz to Kidney Failure, she was almost 15. She was DX at 10yr. Her BUN was never below 50 the day we were told of her DX. The last 2 months they were over the top. Dehydration can cause the BUN to be elevated. I'm sure they will put her on a specail diet, we were on K/D for the last 5 yr. GOOD LUCK TO YOU Keeping you both in my prayers |
I am so sorry that you are going thru this. I wish you all the best. My friends yorkie was just diagnosed with this yesterday. She is waiting to speak with the doctor today to find out what can be done. She is totally devastated. He is 9 and didn't not have any symptoms other than not wanting to eat. He'd just had surgery 2 months ago for his ligament so she thought he was mopey because of being cooped up for so long. |
I am so sorry your sweet Pixie girl is going through this. I don't know anything about kidney failure, but I will keep Pixie and you in my prayers. I am so glad you took her on to UT, she will be under the best of care there. I pray that the drs can give you a good diagnosis and treatment plan. ((hugs)) |
I'm so sorry to hear about Pixie. Did she get into anything? |
I am so sorry, and will pray for Pixie's recovery. Hugs to all. |
