Please help peanut might have eye removed in morning! My little Peanut was attacked by a dog Sunday night. His eye was badly damaged, so we rushed him to the vet. The vet had to sew his eye lids shut. I was supposed to take him back in two weeks, but today I noticed his eye was still badly swollen and leaking pus, so I took him back to the vet. He said the eye is infected. Now they they want to remove the eye in the morning. Please help has anyone had a similar experience? Is it normal for them to remove the eye because of infection? Please pray for my Peanut! |
I'm so sorry that this happened to peanut. Though I don't have any medical advice for you I pray that peanut is okay. Keep us updated! |
Oh no, I'm so sorry Peanut was so badly injured. I don't have any experience but I want you know, I'm praying for Peanut's recovery. God Bless him...hugs))) to the little guy. |
I am so sorry for your little Peanut. Unfortunately, infection can damage an eye beyond repair. I would recommend getting in to see an opthamologist first thing in the morning. Sending prayers for your boy. |
Hi and Welcome to YT. Wish it could have been under better circumstances... So sorry about you and your pup having to go through this. I have heard of this happening. When the eye is too badly damaged, there's really nothing that can be done to save it, and with infection being present, it can be life-threatening if it's not removed. Many dogs do well, they feel better after the removal, and can adapt to their vision limitations quite well. I'll keep your little one in my prayers.... |
I just want to say thank you to everyone for replying so quickly and especially for the prayers we need all the help we can get. I just want this all to be over so my baby can go back to being the happy playful and loveable little sweetheart he was before. No matter what happens I will still love him the same! Thanks again! |
I'm so sorry that Peanut was attacked by a dog. That owners dog should be responsible for the vet bills. I feel so bad for you and Peanut and I will say a prayer for her, and for you! I'm so sorry you are going through this. *HUG* |
Poor little Peanut. I am so sorry you may be facing this. It never hurts to get another opionion and I think I might have it checked out further before taking such a drastic step. I guess it depends too on how long you have used your vet and if you trust his judgement. I hope this little guy's eye can be saved. But, if worse comes to worse, its amazing how they adjust. Bless you for being there for him and loving him. Will pray for this little one. |
I came home from work about a month ago to find my 14 year old toy poodle (never had any health problems) who's eye was soooo bulged that the brown part was on the side hardly visible. Took him to the emerg vet who went on to tell us that it was some type of liguid behind the eye. She said she would have to refer us to an eye specialist. My DH works in the eye dept at a hospital and insisted it was just an infection. They gave him a shot of antibiotic (per his persistant request) and sent us home with a bottle of pills. Within 2 days his eye was completely back to normal and no problems since. It sure saved us a whole lot of money. So why can't they just give some antibiotics to see if the infection clears up ? The shot works the quickest and lasts in their system for two weeks. Best of luck to your little love and keep us posted. |
So sorry that you Peanut is going thru this. I hope that you get good news in the morning. Sending our thougts and prayers. |
So sorry you and peanut have to go through this. I know how terrible it can be. Our little baby lost her eye and she adjusted so well we couldn't believe it. I think it was harder on us than on her. She was 10 when she lost it and lived another 5 years. I will be praying for peanut to well soon. |
So sorry to hear about Peanut's eye, wishing you only the best |

This is terrible. my prayers are with you and Peanut. I would get a second opinion. Hope you called animal control forthe dog that attacked him and the owner. Please keep us updated on his health. |
We just got back from the vet he said the eye didn't look that bad. So he didn't take it out. The vet said peanut will be blind in the eye and he may have to have it removed later, but not today. I have to take him back in a week to get the stitches out and we should know if he gets to keep the eye. Still praying for a miracle. Thank you for the thoughts and prayers. Please keep praying for Peanut! |
Thanks for the update! Will defnitely keep Peanut in my thoughts and prayers. Welcome to YT! :) |
That is very good news!! I'll keep Peanut in my prayers, and be looking for your updates on how he's doing. :) |
Ill keep Peanut in my prayers |
My Trixie was attacked by another dog and her eye swelled up.This was about 10 years ago.She had her eye removed. It didn't affect her in any way.She was 15 at the time and lived to be nearly 20. Please don't worry,it is only cosmetic. They cope marvelous. The vet pointed out to me that his dog had an eye removed and I had never noticed. If it comes to the worst Peanut will soon bounce back. Hoping things keep improving for you.I know how you feel. |
We appreciate the update. I will continue to pray for Peanut. |
I am so sorry you are going through this with your little Peanut. I am also glad to hear your vets are giving him more time to be absolutely sure. I too am praying for a miracle for little peanut, and hoping his little body repairs itself. |

Poor baby. I hope his eye heals quickly and he does not have to have it removed. |
Good news. :) Hope he starts to feel better soon and things work out for you guys. |
Great news! So happy to hear it wasn't as bad as expected! I think I would ask about seeing an opthalmologist, maybe they could do more to try to save his eye and his vision.... (nothing against your vet)... |
