Prayers for Ms. Pleeze Its been a while since I have posted in this forum, but I feel that if anyone can understand what I am going through it would be the wonderful Yorkie lovers in this community. On 5/19/2011 I stupidly feed my 5 lb Ms. Pleeze 3 small cooked rib bones. I was unaware of what would happen and thought I was just giving her a treat. 5/20/2011: The bone fragments splintered and caused her to start vomiting about 9 hour later. I quickly took her to the vet and with X-Rays I was re assured that the bones would pass through her system but to make sure that she was drinking plenty of fluids. One hour later she still vomiting but drinking plenty of water. After about 3 hours she began to pass the stool with the bone fragments. At about 3pm she was laying around ( I felt she still felt really bad from the tummy ache). I left to go grab a bite to eat ( I am out of town with her) and within the 45min I was gone she was unresponsive when I returned. I rushed her to the vet. She was stabilized, blood sugar was dropping, fluids were pumped through her and four hours later we were rushing to University of Minnesota Veterinary Medicine. I was told they were not giving her much of a chance because of the blood sugar not being stable. From what we were told was that the bone cut the intestine, which cause the natural bacteria in the intestines to enter the blood stream and circulate throughout her body. I could not euthanize her, as was suggested due to the low prognosis. I had to give her a chance. 5/21/2011: I was able to go into the Animal ICU and visit with my beautiful little girl. She was lifting her head and moving around more. We are hoping that she will keep improving and proving everyone wrong. Please keep her in your prayers. I know what I did was stupid and I should have known better, but my little girl is very important to me and loved by my entire family.

Thank You Thanks so much for the thoughts and prayers. I just got back from visiting my little girl. They said she actually went out and tee teed and trotted back toward the door. She isn't wanting solid foods yet and that is a must to go home. Her ears were perked up when they were brining her to me to hold, but when she saw me she dropped her ears and wouldn't look at me. I knew then that she was going to be fine because that is her "I'm mad at you" look. I did force feed her a little, but decided on tube feeding her tonight. The Doctor said that she has improved amazingly and that if all goes well that we will bring her "home" Tomorrow night. We are currently in Minnesota due to work and it is an 17 hour drive back to Alabama so they are going to leave the tube in "just in case" and send food home with us. They are also checking her for Addison disease and should know the results to that test tomorrow. I will be SO happy to have her home with us. And I've learned a great lesson.

Still praying for your little fur baby... It sounds like she is on her way to a recovery, and hopefully her reaction was only due to the ribs. Thank you for posting also, to warn about the risks of giving our little guys real bones. Hope your trip back to AL goes well with her recovering.

| I am so sorry to hear about your baby, yes its gut wrenching to see them in pain. Please forgive yourself first, its difficult to carry that weight around with you and enjoy your beautiful girl. We all live and learn and hope that we can prevent it from happening to anyone else. Thank you for sharing your story here. This will hopefully prevent someone else from doing the same thing, Unknowingly! I send you hugs to you both! Keeping her in my prayers and eager to see new pics of your girl in your arms and enjoying Mommy! Bless you both

Addisons/ Leptosporosis? Just received a call from the doctor telling us that Ms. Pleeze's Liver and Kidney values are not correct. They are doing more blood test and waiting on the results for a cortisol test to rule out Addison disease. The doctor said that the bone digestion may really have triggered something that was there and is allowing us to see that she has an underline problem. I have been researching these to possible scenarios ( Addison or Leptrosporosis) and all the previous symptoms look like Addison. I know that if she has Addison Disease that she can live a long life but I'm not finding longevity on Leptrosporosis. Does anyone else have or know of an animal that has either of these diseases? Thank you for all your help and prayers.
