| Hi. Welcome to YT! I'm sorry to hear your little one has kidney disease. I know nothing about that drug in particular; however, I know some on this site use cheeze whiz (you know, that stuff in a can) to hide pills in and get their dogs to eat them. |

| Have you tried putting a dab of peanut butter on the pill? I'm sorry Tyler is going thru this. My Sammy has kidney disease too. Sending good thoughts and hugs to you both. |

| Find out if you could open the capsule and sprinkle the contents onto wet food, cheese, yogurt etc. The only reason not to is if it time released etc. Gl

| Azodyl isn't itme released, but it's made to release it's contents into the intestines, not the stomach, so that's why it must be taken whole (the vet I worked for prescribed it frequently). It's also important that it not be chewed for the same reason, so coating it with food won't work. You have to get it down her throat as far as you can and make her swallow. Hold his head back so his nose is pointed straight up, open his mouth, use your finger to push the pill ALL the WAY into the back of his mouth - to the opening of his throat, make sure it's right in the middle too, not off to the side by his back teeth. Keeping his head back the whole time, close his mouth and keep it closed until he licks her nose - that's how you'll know he swallowed. If he won't swallow, gently blow on his nose, that helps sometimes, but usually they will swallow automatically if you get it back far enough and keep the mouth closed and head back.

Tyler is now doing okay. he went for blood work today and waiting for results. hope things will get a little better. i will have to wait until the holiday is over to get all the results. i will keep my fingers crossed. the vet now is talking about Sub-Q fluids which i will have to research. i would like to do it at home so i need to do my homework. in the mean time i wish everyone a safe holiday and will be all posted. sunshinegirlone |

| I'm sorry to hear about Tyler. I gave sub fluids to my cat for awhile. It's really easy to do my cat was 19 when he went into renal failure and he only lasted a few months. As far as giving pills have you tried the pill pockets they sell them in all the pet shops. |

| My Teddy takes medicine every 12 hours for his epilepsy and I've been sticking it in low sodium part skim mozzarella cheese sticks - I just break off a small cube and stick the capsule inside and it is working every time.

| Sometimes capsules can be opened. Did you ask the company? For Ellie's, I coat it in something slippery (baby sweet potato) and put it in her throat. They are too big for her, so she was choking without the coating. SQ fluids are generally not a big deal. It's probably your pup's best chance.... Most pups tolerate it and it is usually not difficult. The vet will do a demo for you. My girl stands or lays down quietly (or tries to get away and play - lol) on the rare occasion that I have to give her sq's.
