| My poor Izzy! First, Izzy had a HORRIBLE experience at the vet. She was taken to another room and given a shot supposedly the equivalent of Pepcid AC. I could hear her screamng for all she was worth for a LONG time. The vet brings her back, halfheartedly apologizes and says " I guess your dog has a hard time with shots" WHAT?!? For that amount of time screaming? Never again will I go to a vet where they take the dog to a different room to do things. She has not been the same since. How do I complain about a vet? However, it was determined that she has hookworm, roundworm and lungworm, but thank God no heart worm. She was given medication which I am giving her now. UNFORTUNATELY shortly after I ran out of her food, "Fromm puppy gold" which I cant seem to find anywhere, (plus she hates it,) and hard switched her to something else, so she got diarrhea. Currently I am giving her 1/2 teaspoon [pepto] 2x/day and for food, 1/2 cup rice and boiled chicken 2x/day. Also just a bit of yogurt. She is starving and I have to really watch her outside as she will eat most anything off the ground. I have been averaging 3-4 hrs of sleep a night as she needs to go out constantly with the diarrhea. She is not dehydrated and her hunger is fine. I have picked a new vet and am having her records faxed over. Problem is I dont have the money to take her in again unless its a real emergency, as I am unemployed and I just dont have it to spend. Her bill was 200 and that was my bill money for the month. I am looking for advice, opinions, questions etc as I know you all have her best interests at heart. I appreciate it! | You can report the vet to the state veterinary board to have him investigated; owever, nothing he did was close to illegal or unethical. Or at least you can't prove it... Taken the pup out of the room is very normal. Animals tend to get more worked up when their owners are present. Also, if an owner tries to restrain their animal and they end up getting bit, owner can sue the vet (at least here in Michigan). Sometimes the needle just goes in more painfully than other times. And if it was Cerenia that was given, it stings quite badly. She is probably starving from the intestinal parasites. When did the vet say she can return to eating dog food?

| You can give her some apple for the runny poos. The Pectin in the apple will clear it rite up or you can use plain canned pumpkin but I have found the apple to work faster . |

| Yes, I agree, no taking my pups to other rooms.... but one does have to be extremely calm in the exam rooms so as not to upset the pet. The vet took my dear kitty out once, but they brought him right back bc he really misbehaved for them! I laughed. That's my boy!

| Maybe he hit a nerve, the medicine burned a lot or the vet tech had to really hold the dog down for the vet or tech to be able to administer the shot, causing her to wail out the whole time. That is one thing a lot of dogs scream over is absolute and unremitting restraint. I think it may panic many of them and they let go with the high "C" notes. Sick like she was, she probably didn't take to restraint and needling and burning medicine or even one of those things. All those worms, she probably felt pretty bad and having diarrhea, too - was probably just one more thing too much having them do that to her. I sure hope she gets better quickly and feels her old self again, soon. Maybe this new vet will be better.

| I wonder if it would help to give her pure pumpkin, not the kind used for pie filling. Would it be good for her or not, since she has worms?

| Great news and not so good news. The new vet totally rocked! A wise caring man who brought all the equipment in to the exam room to try to hydrate her. The needle went in ok, but as soon as he moved it she wailed, so that was it. He gave her 2 much needed meds, and examined her thoroughly twice! She had no temp, so thats good, but he told me both her kneecaps are blown out, and that she might indeed have some much more serious issues. We should know in 2 or 3 days at the most by how she reacts to the meds. At this point we can just hope Told me to forget all about the pepto: just not a good med for dogs in his opinion. Who knew? He also pointed out that she still has one of her baby canine teeth despite having the adult ones. She had a pretty bad day in that she was lethargic and depressed. As I write this she is crashed out on the bed with me and I hope she will be feeling better tomorrow. I have some movies to watch and I will keep vigil so I can get her to the floor if she needs to go. She hasnt gone potty yet today, but has no problem piddling. So, I will be back on to give updates, and thanks so much for al the input! Goodnight! |

| I'm glad you learned what it was that caused her to cry out. Also, it's really nice you like the new vet. It's important to have a good relationship with them. I hope she's much better soon, but I'm really sorry to hear about her knees. Please keep us updated.
