Teddy had a Seizure Teddy just had a seizure. It was a severe generalized seizure with all four limbs paddling. It lasted about 5 or 6 minutes. Teddy has been on his anticonvulsant medicine since December, and this was the first recorded seizure after starting the medication. I'm pretty upset. If he has another seizure today, we will go to the ER vet per Dr. orders. Thanks for any good thoughts for Teddy Bumpkins. Here is a partial video - I recorded over our voices since we were in a panic. Here is the video after his seizure also showing how he is after. |
Oh my...seizures are just so frightening! We will be praying for little Teddy. Please keep in touch. |
Sorry to hear this. He did seem to come out of it very well though. Keeping you all in my prayers.... |
Hi Cathy, My Farrah gets these. Somewhat new. She has had about 6 of them over the past 4-5 months. The vet knows she has had them but we are unsure what they are. Hers last 2 minutes and the front 2 paws paddle. I don't think we should pick her up but on her fifth one she almost got very hurt trying to get to me. So now I pick her up but don't pet or talk. I just wait it out and put her down where she is back to normal immediately. Do you know what it is from? What they are called? Thanks for your reply. |

Is Farrah on medication? Teddy has epilepsy and had all the testing done to rule out any other cause of seizures. His seizures are severe generalized also called grand mal seizures. He is on medication dosed every 12 hours - apparently it is not working. |
Poor baby. :( I will keep Teddy in my thoughts and prayers. {{{Hugs}}} |

awww, bless his little heart...will be praying ya'll get the meds all worked out, so no more events...My son's sheltie had seizures, and after a while they got the dose adjusted, and he's just fine... |
Saying a prayer for Teddy & that they get his meds adjusted right to minimize these episodes. I've never seen a dog seizure before. It was sad, but very informative for those of us who haven't experienced this. I was amazed by the during & after videos. Quite unbelievable how spunky Teddy is after. Keeping Teddy in my thoughts and wishing the best for him. |
Oh no Cathy, I am so sorry to hear this sending prayers and well wishes for Teddy Bumpkins and hugs to his mother. |
Cathy...sorry to hear Teddy is still having seizures even though he is on meds....they look pretty severe. Glad to hear he recovered kinda quickly. Teddy is in m prayers and so are you. |
sending warm healing thoughts..... |
Cathy, I'm so sorry. I am sure you were in a panic. Keeping Teddy in my prayers and I hope it doesn't happen again. Hopefully an adjustment in the medication can prevent any more of them. Sending you lots of hugs, too. |
Poor Teddy. :( I'm sure that Dr. Sisson will help to reassure you when you hear back from him about the seizure. You are a wonderful momma to Teddy Bumpkins and I know that you will give him nothing but the best care and love that any owner could possibly give. It was meant for him to be with your family to make sure that he has the best quality of life possible. I wish I was closer to you so that I could give you a great big  and then we could go for pistachio ice cream together. :p |

Oh no Cathy, I'm so very sorry for Teddy and you all, that has to be so scary to watch and know there is not much you can do but wait it out. Is it possible to increase his meds to keep this from happening again? I know what ever it takes you will provide the best care possible, you're the perfect yorkie mom! Hugs and prayers to you all. |
Cathy I'm so sorry :( I know you had high hopes for this medication. Lets pray that a dosing adjustment is all that he needs. A little tweeking perhaps ;) The video was heartbreaking :( but isn\'t it a wonderful tool to be able to show Teddy\'s Dr EXACTLY what happens?? I\'m sure it helps them out tremendously just to be able to see the seizure first hand! and you can count me in on that :martini: |
I am so sorry to hear about Teddy! Will keep him in my thoughts. |

What a scary thing to have to go through! Poor Teddy... It does look like he came out of it well though. I am so sorry that the medication is not working... We all know Teddy will get the best of care. I hope the vet can figure out something that will work better for his seizures. |
