Sending Teddy a great big hug. My heart was breaking watching. He looks just like my Sammy when he had seizures. At first Sammy took 1/4 pheno twice a day and it wasn't helping. Then the vet changed it to 1/2 pheno twice a day (which he still takes) and it only helped a little. Then the vet also put him on KBR (potassium bromide) 100 mg once a day and that did the trick! Sam hasn't had a seizure since 2002 and he was having them quite a bit. Any people food with BHT in it (corn flakes) can cause seizures too, so if Teddy eats any people food you have to read the label. I'm praying for Teddy and you too. It's a terrible thing to watch them go thru. Hugs to all of you!! |
Oh, Cathy! I'm sorry to hear about Teddy :( Give him hugs..and you. We'll pray for no more seizures. |
aww poor Teddy, that just broke my heart |
It just broke my heart to watch sweet Teddy. Prayers ceratinly going out for him, and you as well. |
Oh goodness Cathy I watched the first video and panicked until I watched the second and saw he was okay. Many many prayers sent for you and teddy. Keep us updated on the little sweet heart! |
I will keep Teddy in my prayers. That is so scary. |
That poor sweet baby. How scary that must have been. I hope the doctor can get his Meds under control. Hugs to you too ~ it's sure not easy on Mom either! |
Cathy, I'm so sorry Teddy had a break-through seizure. I hope the vet figures out what's going on with the sweet guy. Hugs to you both. |

The doctors did explain that no medication will completely control or prevent her seizures, it is only meant to limit them and the frequency that they occur. The meds will stop them completely when increased, but then we are dealing with 'quality of life' issues, so we have come to accept partial control over them, allowing her more ability to engage in everyday activities. She has seizures about twice a month, from 2 or more a week. So we're good with that. I remember reading about the ice cream.. will check it out further. |
Cathy, Just checking in this morning to see how you and Teddy are doing. |
Oh, poor Teddy. I'm sending prayers for him and you. Did anything different happen yesterday? Did you give HW meds, flea meds, a special treat, etc? I'm just wondering what caused a seizure after all this time. |
So sorry to hear about little Teddy. That is very scary and glad he came out of it. If the current meds are not working, is there another medication that may have a better effect? Will keep the little guy in my thoughts and hope it can be controled. |
Also, with my DD, she is more likely to have break-through seizures when she menstruates or if she's running a fever... do you think Teddy may have had something else going on when the seizure occurred? Just a thought as the meds had been working up until then... |

I am not sure it is epilepsy but her seizures mimic Teddy's to a "T". So maybe we will look in that direction. I had a dog growing up that had epilepsy and she lived a full life with it. No problems once on the meds. Good Luck with Teddy. Poor baby. My heart breaks for him...and you. What did the vet say about how to handle him during a seizure? |

No, he did not have anything out of the ordinary that I can think of. He seemed to be feeling fine and also did not have any medications other than his zonisamide. |

His seizures were far apart to begin with but that was w/o meds. He had one at 8 mos, 13 mos, 22 mos, and then 25 mos old. After the third one he went for the neuro consult and we left off with the possibility of medicating if they became more frequent or severe. At the 4th seizure, I captured on my phone and the neurologist said they were severe and he needed meds right away. So since december he had not had one. So I guess maybe the fact that they were slightly increasing before meds makes the fact that five mos elapsing is showing the medicine might be helping. I dont know. I guess I have to leave the analysis to the Dr. Someone PM'd me today suggesting I ask about a Thyroid 5 panel so I will find out if he had that and if not get it done. I'm pretty sure everything was already ruled out medically and also he had all the neurological testing but maybe there is this that wasn't done. I am waiting for the neurologist to email me back, I'm hoping I hear today. |

Teddy is fine - it's as if it never happened. |
I'm glad he's ok today.:) |
Words cannot express how sorry I am that Teddy is going through this. I can't watch this video without thinking about my own Teddy and what I would do/feel if it were him. I think we are all connected in the sense that any little one's pain is our pain as well...and quite frankly watching Teddy made tears well up in my eyes...I'm not very good at articulating my emotions, but I just want to let you know that we are all here for you, and your Teddy will always be in our thoughts throughout the day. I read your previous comment that he's doing better, and I'm beyond ecstatic that this is the case. Thank you for keeping us updated. -Rose |

Awww, thank you. It is definitely upsetting to watch. I was fine during it and as soon as he came out of it I was crying. I am always afraid he is not going to stop seizing so when it ends it is a big sign of relief. Minutes feel like hours when it is happening. |

Checking on Teddy today..glad to see he's doing well. |
Just seen this thread, sorry to see Teddy like that. It made me cry. I had never seen a dog seize before, so it was heart breaking to me. Glad to hear Teddy is better today. |
I am so sorry and heartbroken after seeing Teddy. I know you will do everything that you can to help Teddy. He's a beautiful baby and so lucky to have a mom who loves him and cares for him like you do. I know the feeling of trying to do everything you can to help and protect a baby so loved but feeling so helpless. You both will be in my thoughts and prayers. |
I'm just seeing this thread. It was heartbreaking watching Teddy's video clip. I will keep him in my prayers that his medication will continue to keep the seizures at bay. |

Thanks. And again, all the best to Teddy. |
Checking in to see how Teddy is doing...Glad to hear of the improvement...I know how stressful it is to watch your baby have such an awful event...I have seen it first hand w/my son's dog...As previously mentioned, will be glad when they have the meds adjusted just right! |
Teddy Update Teddy has been doing great with no more seizures. His neurologist would like him to stay on his current dose of medication as he feels that five months without a seizure while on Zonisamide is very good. Thanks to everyone who sent Teddy Bumpkins (and me) well wishes. We appreciate it very much :) |
