| Isabel can't step up Isabel is my 10 yr old female. She has always been an energetic, dominate, barking holy terrier. The last few weeks, we've noticed she kinda takes a couple false runs at the couch or chair before jumping up, but she always made it. Since Tuesday morning, she hesitates before going up a step. She will put her front foot on the step and then stop and it looks like she is trying to figure out how to get up, so of course, we pick her up. Yesterday, she was movng slower. She is peeing and I saw her poop yesterday morning, she ate Tues night. But, when we placed her on the couch last night, she never moved. She didn't even bark when someone came over. She did drink last night. This morning, I had to carry her outside, she peed and then stood and looked at me until I picked her up. She is moving very slowly. I have looked her over, I don't see anything, she doesn't flinch or pull away when you manipulate her legs or belly. This just breaks my heart, she is my baby. We have an appt this afternoon with the vet, but I wonder if anyone has any idea? |

| All you can do is let the vet take a look. They will check her for pain. Xrays and bloodwork may be needed. If she takes one step and kinda seems to be slow/slow reflexes, etc. then some other health issues come to mind.

| Ditto what Ellie May said, but I'd also get some stairs for the places where she is having trouble.

| I'd definitely take her to the vet, just to make sure she is not suffering from an injury. She could be in some discomfort or pain, and the vet can help with some medication as well.

| I'm sorry Isabel isn't feeling well. I'm glad to hear she is going to the Vet. I know my Lizzie who is now 14 started doing this around age 12, it was her eyesight and she has some arthritis. But other than she is doing really good.

| Izzy went to the vet. They took xrays, no broken or cracked bones, no bone spurs, her spine, everything was fine. No kidney or bladder stones, no excess gas, no constipation. So, they think she must have strained a muscle as the vet said her back muscles felt a little tense. They gave her a muscle relaxer and Medicam and said to limit her activity for the next week or so. So, she is sitting on the arm of the chair watching the world. We will have to get some steps or a step stool or something so she can get on and off the chair. Thanks for the concern. |

| My 14 year old toy poodle started doing the "I can't get up on couch or bed anymore" routine about 6 years ago. So natually being my baby I just picked him or or put him down. My husband was right, he was just tricking me into a free ride. He's always been healthy and doesn't have any problems with his jump. Hopefully that's what your baby is doing and that nothing is wrong. They just get so spoiled and want you to do more and more for them. He's been having to jump to safety now that we have Cupcake (yorkie puppy). She thinks his pom pom tail is a toy |
